Andrea is a twenty- three year old college student who is

working towards her master’s degree in child psychology.

It has been a hard journey thus far, but she has done her

best to make it through despite the stress. It was no

surprise that prior to spring break, Andrea’s best friend

Daniel asked her to go with him to Florida just to get away

from it all. He had it all planned, they were going to stay

at his Cousin Christopher’s condo, and they were going to

visit the various Florida parks and the beach. They would

eat at the most fabulous restaurants, and hopefully by the

end of their time there, Andrea would have a sparkling

ring on her finger. Wednesday afternoon, Daniel went to

Andrea’s dorm and told her of his plans. She of course

agreed, after a little persuasion. Everything was set and

the following week, they were on their way to Florida.

On their way down to Florida, Andrea and Daniel

discussed many things. They talked about college life, for

Daniel was also in college. He was pursuing a degree in

pharmaceuticals’. They talked about their personal lives

and their plans for the future. They discussed families,

finances, and they even talked for a short time about the

idea of children when they got married; although Andrea

had no clue of Daniel’s feelings for her. One thing they

discussed was that of Daniel’s cousin, Christopher. Andrea

had never met him and she was curious as to what to

expect, so she asked. Daniel explained that Christopher

was a doctor. His specialty was pharmaceuticals, but his

passion was age prevention. He has a line of age fighting

skin creams on the market that were making him millions

by the minute. Daniel told her that Christopher is recently

divorced. His ex-wife had some fling with another man and

it left their relationship in ruins. Even though they could

not remain together, Christopher still loved her, and

wanted her to be happy. In the end, he gave her almost

everything he had.

Finally, the duo arrived at their destination. As they

unpacked the vehicle they were met by Christopher, who

assisted them with carrying the luggage up to their rooms.

Afterwards the trio went out to dinner at a small restaurant

off the shore of one of the local beaches, followed by

discussions of plans over coffee at a local Starbucks. Once

they finished the evening, Christopher departed, stating

that he had some research to follow up on at his lab, and

that he would be seeing them periodically throughout the

week.

That week, Daniel and Andrea did a number of things

together. They went to Disney and took pictures with the

fairies, then visited Universal Studios and had slop with

Shrek. There were days at the beach, and nights in lavish

restaurants. Then there was the night that Daniel had

been planning for, it was a night that he had prepared a

special dinner at the Ohana’s restaurant at Disneyworld.

He had spent all the money he had in savings to make it

as special of a night as he possibly could. Daniel started

out by ordering a limo to pick Andrea and him up from the

condo. He made sure there was a special seat for them by

the window so that they could view the fireworks over

Cinderella’s castle. He arranged for a serenade and dance

by the ukulele player with his hula girls. He ordered

special wine glasses to share the most special of wines

available, which went perfectly with a dessert the chef

made especially for them. At the end of the night, after

the bill was paid, they walked out of the restaurant full

and happy. They walked down the path towards the limo,

and right before they reached it, Daniel tapped Andrea on

the shoulder. When she turned around to look at him he

was down on one knee, and this is what she heard.

“Andrea, we have been friends for longer than I can

remember. Most people are unable to be so happy in one

lifetime, but I have had the pleasure and fulfillment of

having just that. However, even with that, my life is still

somewhat incomplete, and the one thing that could make

it complete is knowing that I will never lose that feeling.

The only way this could happen is by ensuring that you will

always remain a constant in my life, and it for that reason

and no other that, Andrea, tonight, I am asking you to be

mine forever.”

With that Daniel pulled out a ring that was so beautiful

that even in the darkness of the night, it sparkled so

brightly anyone could see it walking by. He held it out to

her, and with tears in her eyes, she turned and ran the

other way. As she ran she picked up her cell and dialed

Christopher’s number, asking him to come pick her up.

Behind her, Daniel was left confused and saddened by the

experience. Although the two had been friends and he was

unsure of her exact feelings for him, he didn’t think that

she would react the way she did. He believed, if anything,

that she would have turned him down gently by telling him

she didn’t care for him in that way. What happened was so

far away from the way he thought it would go, that he was

left completely torn and confused. Daniel began his slow

walk back towards his vehicle, hoping that he would be

able to apologize to Andrea in the morning because he

never meant to hurt her.
