Back to the Doctor

Chapter 5

Drew was rushing Sarah out of the door. He had never wanted to go to a doctor so bad in his life but he wanted to find out what was wrong with him, and if could be fixed. Once they were on the road Drew wasn’t so eager anymore. He kept thinking, What if is no cure, What if this kills me, as the what if’s ran through his mind Sarah noticed that he looked as if he was on the verge of crying. Sarah put a hand on his back and started to rub it bringing him out of his trance. As he blinked a few tears came out of his eyes, Sarah decided not to point this out to avoid the embarrassment. As they got to the lab Drew was shaking with anxiety. And this time when Sarah offered it he took her hand and squeezed as they walked down the hall. When they got into the room it took only five minutes before being called into the office. After he got his shot the doctor asked “Is there anything you would like the discuses with me?”

“Um... Yes there is. Well I think I um... I might um... be shrinking” Drew said very embarrassed at how crazy he sounded.

“Yes. I noticed this on your charts we will monitor it through the next week and see what you are like next week. We ran some blood tests and whatever is doing this doesn’t seem to be killing you. But beside that we are completely clueless.”

“Okay, thank you doctor.” Drew said as he got up to leave the room.

As he went out into the lobby he sighed in relief that it was not killing him. But then he thought about how much more was he going to shrink, what would happened if he went back to being a baby. What if he never grew up again? The What if’s started to flood into his mind. But again Sarah knocked him out of it by telling him that it was time to go. He walked back down the never ending hallway and they went back home.

“So what did the doctor say?” Sarah said breaking the silence

“That whatever is doing this is not killing me, but beside that he has no clue.” Drew said

“Well thank god for that. I was really worried for awhile” Sarah said

“I’m just really nervous. What if I keep shrinking? What if I become a baby? What if...” Sarah cut him off knowing that he would scare himself

“What if nothing. No matter how young you get I will still love you. And that will never change” Sarah said and that seemed to calm Drew down. As they finished the drive home in silence.
