CHAPTER 217
The security officer peeked into our room and noted, “Derrek, your mom is here.”
I flippantly shot back, “Oh, she’s not my real mom. She’s just a musclebound child molester.”
Sammantha and George both walked in together.
“Derrek, your behavior keeps disappointing me … and amnesia is no excuse. You didn’t just forget that shoplifting is a crime. Why would you do such a thing?”
I couldn’t look her in the eye. I turned my head away and mumbled, “You’re the psychologist. You figure it out.”
“Well I figure that your new girlfriend here is influencing you in a bad way.”
“Leave Starline out of this,” I blurted.
But Sammantha turned to Starline and scolded her. “Don’t think for a second that I don’t know who you are, little girl. You’re the one who pierced Derrek’s ear without asking permission. From now on, you stay away from my son.”
The girl rolled her eyes and countered, “I didn’t hurt anything.”
“Mom, you’re over-reacting. It was just two samall bags of chips.”
She wasn’t buying it. “Derrek, I don’t care if it was two bags of chips or grand theft auto. Everyone knows it’s still stealing … and at your age … look at me, Derrek. (Sammantha put her hand under my chin and lifted it up to make eye contact.) At your age, you should know better.” (She was obviously this time referring to my age 28 rather than age 12.)
“Mom, we just thought it would be fun to ditch eighth period study hall and hang out here. We weren’t planning on stealing. I just wanted to prove to Starline that I was a bad boy.”
“Derrek, this kind of behavior is completely unacceptable. What am I supposed to do with you?”
I sneered, “You can start by shutting the hell up.”
Officer George shook his head. “Derrek, that is no way to speak to your mom.”
I asked Sammantha, “So are you going to punish me, Mom?”
“We’ll talk about that when we get home.”
Starline whispered to me, “Does your mom ever spank you?”
I whispered back, “Only on days that end with the letter ‘Y’.”
The security guard then brought in another person. “Starline, your father’s here.”
The large man took out his wallet and asked, “So how much do I owe for two bags of chips?
“Nothing, sir. It’s evidence.”
I looked up and asked, “So can we finish eating our chips now?”
The security guard answered, “Young man, you’ll be lucky if you stay out of jail.”
The father asked his daughter, “Hey, Star, who’s your friend here?”
“This is Derrek, Daddy. He’s the president of the seventh grade.”
“Hey is? Well then he should know better than to take you shoplifting. Star, did these security guys rough you up at all?”
“No, Daddy, they were nice. Can we go now?”
“Is there something you’d like to say to them first?”
“I’m sorry. Daddy, can we go now?”
The security guard informed us, “Everyone here should understand that these children will no longer be permitted in the mall unless accompanied by a parent. You may leave now.”
Sammantha grabbed my wrist and said, “Let’s go.”
I felt very childish because she held my hand during our walk through the mall … and all the way back to the car.
“Are you going to be able to drive with one hand?” I asked her.
“This is no time to be a smartass, Derrek.”
The ride home was uncomfortable. We said nothing to each other. After she parked the Porche, we got out and she took my hand again and wouldn’t let go. She was deliberately making me feel like a little child.
When we entered the apartment, she led me by the hand to my bedroom and pointed to the baby crib.
She told me, “This is the crib that you’re going to sleep in tonight.”
“WHAT?!” I yelled.
Then she took me into the hallway and opened the linen closet. She continued, “Derrek, these are the diapers you’ll be wearing.”
I shouted, “NO! NO! NO!” and yanked my arm to escape, but she increased her iron grip on my wrist.
“And these are the baby bottles that you’ll be drinking from … and this is the Vaseline and baby powder I’ll be using to prevent you from getting diaper rash.”
I started whining, “NO MOM!!! You can’t turn me into a baby! I don’t want to be a baby! You can’t do this! PLEASE!”
“Derrek, you asked me if I was going to punish you, and the answer is yes.”
Now I really turned on the waterworks, crying freely. “Mom! When you first, met me, I was 28. We’re both adults. Just because you CAN turn me into a baby, it doesn’t mean that you should. It’s not fair! It’s wrong!”
“Derrek, what did you say to me back at the mall?”
“Uhhh … I said it was just two bags of chips.”
“No, what did you say to me when I asked, ‘What am I going to do with you?’”
I now began crying opening because I knew where the conversation was heading. “I’m sorry, Mom,” I whined. “I was being disrespectful.”
She tightened her grip on my wrist and emphasized, “Repeat your exact words to me, Derrek.”
I sniffed and cried my answer. My voice cracked like a little kid squealing. “I said that you should start by shutting the hell up.”
“And what is my pet peeve, Derrek?”
I whined, “Respect … But Mom, I was just mouthing off to show Starline that I could be a bad boy.”
“Well, congratulations. You achieved your goal. Now which diapers here are your favorite?”
My body weight sagged, but she still held me up.
“Mom, you can’t turn me into a baby because then I’ll only be six years old on Friday, and then you won’t leave. You’ll be violating our agreement.”
“But that’s okay, Derrek, because you’ve already violated it.”
“What? How?”
“Let’s go back and review your promise. What was your end of the deal, Derrek?”
I sniffed, “I don’t exactly remember.”
“Oh, but I do,” she replied. “You said, and I quote … ‘I’ll play along with your game for one full week … till next Friday night. I’ll be a good little boy for you, I’ll obey all your rules, I’ll call you ‘Mom’, I’ll wear my PJ’s, I’ll go to bed early, I’ll cuddle with bunny rabbit, and I’ll go to school in the seventh grade and try to be a good student’.”
I mumbled, “Oh.”
“So is ditching school being a good student?”
“It was just study hall.”
“Is shoplifting being a good little boy?”
“Not really, I guess.”
“So are you going to be a good baby?”
“NO!!! I don’t want to be a baby! Because then you’ll just keep me as a baby forever! You’ll have no incentive to let me grow back up. And then you’ll invite Madeline over to be my babysitter all the time … and she’ll diaper me and spank me and play with my penis. My life will be horrible. She’ll spank me hard because I made fun of her small tits.”
“Derrek, why did you do that to Madeline? You can’t say now that you weren’t acting like a baby. You deserve to be a baby.”
I suddenly looked up. “Mom! Wait, that’s it! I’ll take the hard spanking!”
“What?”
“Mom, remember on Friday you gave me a choice of a light spanking or a hard spanking if I didn’t take off my underpants?”
“Yeah?”
“Well that’s it, Mom! I’ll take the hard spanking right now if you don’t turn me into a baby. Please, Mom!!!!! I really really really don’t want to be a baby.”
Sammantha finally let go of my wrist. It was purple. She put a hand under her chin.
“You know, Derrek, you should be very careful what you wish for.”
“I know, Mom … but nothing could be worse than becoming a baby.”
She mulled it over and made a suggestion. “Step into my bedroom, Derrek.”
I hated it every time she calls it HER bedroom, but I was in no position at the moment to argue.
“Close the door.”
I did.
Now look in the mirror and tell me if you see a man or a boy.
Sammantha was really trying to demean me now. “A boy,” I quietly answered.
“How old?”
I knew she just wanted to stick it to me. “Twelve,” I admitted.
“I just want to make sure that we both understand that you are a child who is being punished for being disrespectful to an adult.”
I stared at the floor and nodded my head.
Sammantha opened her sliding closet door a few inches and took down a huge wooden paddle with air holes. Then she turned around and slammed it on the bed mattress so hard it made the entire room shake … and it made me jump. It sounded like a double-barreled shotgun blast.
Timidly, I asked her, “Will that thing send me to the hospital?”
Sammantha sat down on the end of the bed, tapping the paddle on her left palm, and answered, “If it doesn’t kill you.”
