Chapter 2
The First Night

Chapter Description: Sleeping in an unknown place isn't always a good idea.

Seth plopped down on the couch like he used to do at his parents house before he moved out.

“There has to be a catch,” Seth said to no one, “This place is just too nice to be for criminals. Somethings up here, I just know it!” But before he could sleuth, a booming voice came from what sounded like an intercom, but Seth couldn’t find its source.

“Attention to our guests!” the familiar voice of the old man said, “It is now time for dinner. Please step into your pod and come down. There will be a time-out for anyone that does not come and they will have dinner alone. That is all.” The intercom clicked.

“Pod?” Seth thought. What in the world?” Seth the remembered the strange door and decided to open it.

Inside there was a small room, furnished with a scarlet carpet and white-washed walls. The only thing inside was a chair, bolted to the floor. Seth stepped inside.

“Please sit in the transportation seat,” The MSN lady commanded. Seth sat.

“Please buckle your security brace.” She could have said seatbelt, Seth though,

“Please hold on tight, Seth.” Suddenly, the floor gave way. Seth and his chair were placed into a what Seth believed to look similar to a barrel of a gun.

“Now firring to . . . cafeteria,” The MSN lady said.

Firing?

BOOM! Seth felt his chair rocket off. ’Swoosh’ was all Seth could here. He felt himself getting ready to vomit when it was over. Seth looked around to see he was in a large room, the likes of which Seth hadn’t seen since he was in high school. It was a typical lunchroom cafeteria. A menu sat before him. Seth read it and was surprised that it was completely blank except for the line, you ask, you receive. Curiously, Seth said, “I would like some pizza.

“Request complied, here is your dinner, have a good night.” Seth now had before him three slices of sausage pizza, his favorite.

“Wha, where did this come from?” Seth asked. When no response was heard, he merely grabbed a slice of pizza and ate.

“Can I have some water or something?” Seth asked curiously.

“Water, coming right up. Here you are, Seth.” Seth looked to see that there was indeed a glass of water in front of him He drank until he couldn’t drink anymore, then the machine bleeped.

“Completed, have a wonderful night.” And with that, Seth was whisked up the tube again.

That night, Seth laid away in his bed.

“Why am I in a jail that treats its prisoners like this? Why is everyone so calm?” Whats going on?” Seth found himself strangely drowsy. It normally took Seth hours to fall asleep and he was sure the old man’s rules of nine o’clock lights out would keep him awake well into the night. But Seth was out cold before he could finish this though.

After about three hours, Seth’s room shook, but he didn’t arouse. Then, the bed slowly began to descend with a slow and steady ’clua, ank’. When the bed stopped moving, the bed was in a laboratory of sorts. What was lite of the room was white, and two men in lab coats and surgical masks were on either side of Seth’s bed. They proceeded to rip the sheets off of Seth’s bed, and a larger person clad in white lifted Seth out of bed and onto a machine similar to those used to treat leukemia. The table slowly withdrew into the machine, with Seth on it. When the table was done receding, the first man spoke.

“Begin test 15, subject appears to be of medium fitness and intelligence. Subject is recorded to be 23. Beginning preliminary analysis,” The machine hummed as a bright light filled the machine Seth was in, scanning him the way a photocopier scans a paper. When it was done, detailed semantics of Seth’s person, including his most private areas, were displayed on the screen.

“According to the date, one dose of formula X3Y3 per day should be enough to make him vulnerable,” the subject said.

“Very well. Inject the first dosage. We can administer the other if necessary,” the first man said.

“It will be necessary,” the old man said as he walked in through the shadows of the room.”The government wants proof that our projects works. All the families have agreed to the research. One even offered theirs to us. Nothing can or will stop this project from succeeding,” the man said with a darkness not present when he spoke earlier.

“Yes sir.”

“Good, this one looks like a great lab rat. Too bad dibs goes to that idiot from the orientation. Send the lad back up.

“Yes sir.” the men placed Seth back on his bed, and it slowly creped its way back up the shaft.

“Good, now, join me in maniacal laughter!” the old man order.

And all that could be heard in the hotel by those not drugged, was the evil sound of “MWWUHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HA HAA!”
