Chapter 1:

A special gift on Christmas Day

Out of all the days of the year, Christmas was my least favorite. Oh, sure when I was a kid I loved it. Waking early in the morning, running down stairs and opening up my presents. But as I got older the fun of it just disappeared. I think it started when I started to get boring gifts like clothing and other stuff an adult would want. People would always tell me:

“Oh Peter, its Christmas. Enjoy it.”

But I was never able to no matter how hard they tried. Now on this Christmas I thought would be no different. Watch my 8 yr old son, Dylan and my 6 yr old daughter Jessica open their gifts, with a huge smile on their faces when they see the latest video game or the cutest doll that’s on the market. Then after I open up another lame gift from my wife or kids which was usually another tie to add to my collection of ties or a dumb little coffee mug that says “#1 Dad on Christmas”. Of course I pretend that I enjoy the gifts, have a fake smile on my face and say this is the best gift that I ever had received in my whole life and of course this was the first of many lies I tell on this holiday.

Then the came the part I hated the most. Cleaning up the wrapping paper. Who knew that 26 gifts worth of wrapping paper could leave such a mess. You couldn’t even see the floor. The room was a mess. After I cleaned up the mess my kids had made. It was time for the annual Christmas breakfast which their kids could almost anything for Christmas which every year was the same thing, chocolate chip pancakes. How could they eat that, within 4 years they would be fat as a cow.

Then after breakfast came the cleaning of the kitchen.

Great more cleaning I thought to myself

My wife Mary, enjoyed every moment of the holiday even through the messes just because she loved to see her children happy. After cleaning, she told me she had something she wanted to give me. She told me that she wanted to give it to me after breakfast because of the importance of the item. She then handed me an envelope that read on it

“To Peter, I hope this gift will bring the joy Christmas back into your heart.”

“Open it” said Mary

“What is it?”

“Just open it.”

I opened the envelope and inside was a card but not just any card it was a gift certificate. But the strangest part it didn’t say how much it was for or more important to where.

It’s a gift corticated to where and how much I asked in confusion of wondering what on earth had my wife given to me.

“That’s the best part its almost unlimited and to anywhere.”

“How can it be almost unlimited?”

Well, the store where I got said that there is no money limit but there is a different limit.

“What how many items I buy or how much they weigh?”

“They didn’t say, all they said was you would find out once you buy things. I guess there is one way to find out. You need to go on a shopping spree.”

And the very next day, I did do that. I took my whole family to the mall so they could spend the gift cards that they had gotten why I put the so called no money gift card to the test. Like any other man would do, I bought the best things I could possibly buy. Plasma TV’s , tools, you name it. After 2 hours of spending and spending, it was time for me to meet up with my family in the mall’s square like we had planned.

When I got there, my wife and kids were already there. At first they didn’t notice me but as I got close to them, they finally did.

“Peter is that you. Man where did you spend that gift card? At the spa?” Asked Mary

“What do you mean?” I wondered

“Why you look like you are younger. Like you are in your early 40s instead of your late 40s.”

Mary then handed me here compact mirror that was in her purse and when I looked, I realized she was right. I did too look younger. The man that I was 10 years ago was starring back at me in the mirror.

“How can this be?” I said to my family

“Honey check the gift card, I have a feeling.”

I took out the gift card and examined it. I didn’t see no point of doing this but something did draw my attention. There was a message on the card that neither did me or my wife noticed before:

“This gift card you hold, is enchanted. Unlike all gift cards, money isn’t the limit. But your age is. For every $10 you spend, you loose 4 months of your age. Don’t worry if you do spend too much the card wont make you unborn. So be careful of how much you spend.”

I couldn’t believe of what this card was telling me. Could this card be telling the truth. Was this a gift card that held the powers of the fountain of youth. My wife and kids believed it was true but I was a little skeptical. How can a little gift card hold so much power?
