Yearn

"People regret loss, yet yearn for what they do not have." A story about a girl that yearns for an earlier time in her life, something we could all probably relate to. My first story, more practice than anything else. Feedback is appreciated

Chapter 1

Chapter Description: Setting the stage

Lily had failed that biology exam. Not that she didn’t expect as much of course. She silently cursed herself for spending her time on videogames and Netflix binges. College was important, her parents had made that quite clear to her throughout her young adult life, but she could never muster the proper interest in her schooling. She missed the days of cartoons and naps and daycares, perhaps more than she was willing to admit.

Meeting her as she walked out, her friend Chase asked “So what did you think?”

“Not so bad, I didn’t know a few questions, but other than that it was ok,” Lily lied. A few was almost the same as all of them after all, she thought to herself.

“What about you?” she asked

“Insultingly easy as always,” he replied. This was the answer he always gave, everything came so easy to him.

“Anyways, I was going to go check out this new store in the mall today, it’s supposed to have all sorts of magical items,” Chase said with a grin, “wanna come?”

Lily thought about this for a moment, this did not sound so appealing as sulking alone in her room, but she did need something to take her mind off school.

“Sure, I need some magic in my life,” she laughed.

“Great,” replied Chase, “I’ll pick you up in an hour,”

Splitting off to their respective dorms, Lily was glad she had some time to herself. Chase was a good friend, but dealing with his overt perfection was not what she needed at the moment. Campus was beautiful this time of year, the cold dulling the colors as well as giving a crispness to the evergreens. Going to a private school had its perks, the campus being constantly beautiful being one of them. Grass was wintergreen and perfectly manicured, all the buildings seemingly brand new.

Walking back through campus Lily again thought about how much better her life was as a toddler. Long days without responsibility, her thumb thumping comfortably in her lips, not even having to worry about going to the bathroom. She even missed the diaper changes, not caring about the dirtiness. As she looked at her thumb longingly, perhaps a bit more than nostalgia in her mind, she arrived at her dorm.

Lily had lucked out and was one of the few freshmen to have a single all to herself, her other roommate having moved out to live with her boyfriend off campus. As always it appeared a hurricane had crusaded through her tiny room, clothes and food wrappers strewn about in a chaotic frenzy. Lily didn’t mind, and there was no one to keep her organized, so it didn’t matter much to her. Cute as he was, Chase was only her friend, but even so Lily liked to look good when she went out. Examining herself in the mirror Lily decided she needed at least a little bit of makeup. Lily was indeed a pretty girl, her beauty more natural than manufactured unlike most college girls. Her strawberry blonde hair floated down to her shoulder blades, wavy but not wild. She was average in height, and years of high school track had given her an athletic build most girls would envy. Some would even describe her as a bit top heavy, but Lily didn’t see it that way. Finishing up, Lily admired herself.

“At least I have the looks…” she thought to herself, as she thought one more time about the simplicity of her childhood.

Moving to the wall mounted desk, Lily opened her drawer and began to search for something she had been examining quite often as of late. Opening a maroon folder, Lily began to look at memories of her youth. One of her clothed only in a diaper, smearing watermelon on herself. Another of her crawling across her old nursery, diaper high in the air. Flipping through her album, she came to the page she always seemed to come back to. Looking at her former self: a pink t shirt that did not quite reach past her waist, a pacifier she could still feel thumping in her mouth, and her thick diaper pushing her legs apart as it sagged heavily on her waist. This was her peace, no biology, no chemistry, no applications to med school. There was nothing to worry about, except for the cooling diaper around her waist. Lily could not help but wish she could go back, at least no one would expect much of her, least of all to keep her diaper clean. Touching her cotton panties, Lily began to feel a familiar thrill. Before she could get started, a loud knock rapped at her door.

“Shit,” she thought to herself, “He always has the worst timing.”

“I hope I didn’t catch you at a bad time,” said Chase, clearly noticing how well she cleaned up. His warm smile and deep brown eyes catching her eye for once.

“let’s go already,” she said, “you got me all excited to make fun of your weird interest in magic.”

“Everyone’s got their hobbies,” Chase shrugged, as they left for the mall.
