Chapter Description: What news is there from the surgeons reports and how will it effect the families lives?
“Hello and welcome to this evening news, this is your host Diana White and with me is Ken Williams. Our top stories tonight are ’Families death on Motorway’ where three members of a family of five were killed in a tragic road accident. ’Manslaughter, subway murders’ in which current six homeless men in our subways have been found stabbed and beaten to death. But to our first story of this evening. As most of you will have heard now, a family of five were in a tragic road accident during the heavy rain and hail we had in that devastating storm we had the other week. More reports have come in and yes the death toll is now three not two as the young baby who was in the crash has been reported as brain dead. An inside source has told us they heard the mother of the baby crying her eyes out as she heard the news. Sadly it looks as if more bad news is heading its way to the family. Also in terms of the lorry driver, he is offering his sincerest apologise to the families, it has been found he was not drunk or tired at the wheel, it was simply a tragic and devastating accident. However he will still be prosecuted on three accounts of manslaughter but has been given bail for the time being. The case is said be to presented to the crown court in a few weeks. All our preys go out to the friends and familes of both parts who are now learning the news of this terrible event.” There is a mild pause on the television before the woman continues speaking. “Now onto our next story. A mass murder case that resembles something out of a horror movie, Jack Signet reports........”
The room was plain white, nothing on the walls but a simple picture of flowers and a window to the opposite side, inside the room was a single bed surrounded by machines that were set to monitor the patients vitals, even a drip was being used. Though a woman was laying in the bed being propped up by pillows, with wires going to her right arm where she was receiving her fluids. She sat there mostly starring at the television watching the news, her mind not really taking anything in. Her right leg was strapped up heavily bound with bandages, she mostly waited on more news of the fate of her son and her own leg. Though so far no news had come her way, she had already cried herself to sleep two nights and the first time she heard the news she had to be sedated out of her own cries and struggles of anguish, it felt like years to her before she heard a gentle knock at the door and a female doctor walked into the room, dressed in the usual white clothing the woman’s hair cut very short as she walked in smiling slightly to try and ease the mothers worry.
“Hello Mrs Ernwick, I’m glad to see you are awake and doing slightly better it seems.” The doctor glance to the television before pressing the button to turn it off for the moment. “Now as you know we have had a number of surgeons looking over that leg of yours to see if we can save it. There is some good news on that front, they have found they will be able to do a graft to repair the muscle. They’ll simply but taking it from your other leg for the time being to repair the damage. This does mean however you will need to have therapy to relearn to walk on the damaged leg, as it will be a few months before you will be able to even stand on it let alone walk. However we can save the leg, and the operation has been posted for Friday morning.” The woman looked at her not really any emotion in her face as she more just watched before she spoke, her voice slightly shaking but she at least tried to mask her worry and put on a calm front, she needed news on her son.
“Doctor....is there any news about my Ryan..... The doctors have told me about the extent of his damage.... but is there anything they can do?” She asked, the worry in her voice was evident and her face has small tears in her eyes, though she held them back, knowing she would only cry herself into anguish once more. The doctor looked for a moment as she switched to the other chart she was carrying, though as she did that smile faded into a more professional look as Mrs Ernwick could only watch.
“Your son has been through two operations and though he will live he is currently in a stable state, however that is not the issue at hand. The issue is with the fact his male sexual organs were castrated and more or less crushed in the accident, we have tried to repair the damage but the surgeons did what they could, though the organs there could not be saved at all, they even had to go in and remove his prostate due to some bleeding. In essence he no longer can reproduce at all. I am sorry Mrs Ernwick.” The doctor paused for now, letting the news sink in as she stood there, Mrs Ernwick herself more just closed her eyes to think, knowing there was nothing she could do, at least he was alive was all she could think to herself before she looked to the doctor.
“Is there nothing at all we can do for my son? Will he have to live his life like this now, knowing he can never well, have sex with any one.” She said her words were hard to find and slow, the doctor could hear the pain in Mrs Ernwick’s voice though she nodded as she flipped a page on the charts and spoke once more.
“There are a couple of ideas that have been put forward by the surgeons and by the support workers who visited you yesterday. They seem to agree on one thing though, if you wish for your son to live as a boy, you can do so knowing though he will always be disfigured in that area. They could also create a replacement set, much like they do for female to male transsexuals, he would not be able to reproduce but he would have the parts. There is also a third option we could use, but we think option two would be best.”
Mrs Ernwick looked to the doctor as she thought on this, but she needed to hear all her options what was best for her son and her family, she sat quiet for a good few moments, looking to her leg and then up to the female doctor as she spoke. “Please tell me what the third option is, I would like to consider everything before making my decision.” The doctor smiled lightly and nodded as she spoke once more.
“Well the third option is we take the other route, instead of replacing your sons male organs, we can in effect give him the female counterpart, which would be easier. According to the surgeons, but that is not the only thing why we have the option written. We have been able to find out the causes for your sons stomach pains and why every now and again blood was found in his urine, and also how the female organs were missed. Due to the organs position we would not see them in our normal tests, and since the blood was only found once or twice a year, we surmised your son was just prone to urinary infections. The truth is though. we found something very strange with your son, something that was overlooked in the reports that we well managed to save.” Mrs Ernwick looked to the doctor at this, in fact curious on what she was talking about.
“Your son was found to have female sexual organs within him not in the correct positions, but we could just connect it properly and with the correct amount of hormone treatment and specialist treatment that is relatively new. There is a possibility we could get the sightly dormant organs to work correctly, in turn he could become a fully functioning woman. When the surgeons first found what they did, they were a bit surprised and shocked by it, it would explain those odd things on your sons medical reports, his stomach pains and cramps that happened rarely, it actually also explains why he has a more effeminate look. We simply would have to repair his organs, and get him onto the hormone treatment and onto the specialist treatment. With both he could become a fully functioning woman in two to five years.”
“However there is also luck in us finding this now, if he had been left as he was and the additional organs were not found, it could have lead to serious medical issues and the death of your son, be thankful that this accident has saved him from that at least.” Mrs Ernwick sat there more back in her shocked state, but a thought fluttered into her mind, if this worked she could have her daughter back, she could in effect get her baby girl back, as a fully grown woman, part of her heart wanted to say no, but the loss of her baby girl coupled with the stress pushed her to her decision as she answered the Doctor, even her eyes held an unusual flare of hope to salvage something from this great loss.
“I think it would be best if we saved the female organs then, and have my son become a fine woman. It would be kinder on him in the respect he has the chance to have a family then, I would be able to have my daughter and he well she would be able to live her life without being seen as a freak.” The doctor looked to Mrs Ernwick as she nodded whilst listening to her decision.
“Now Mrs Ernwick, what you are asking will take a lot of work and time, and your son may not be pleased with this, however I must agree that this is for the best. Even the surgeons think it would be better, but they thought you would prefer to hear option two as our optimal choice. If this is your wish then we will go ahead with the operation right away and sort this. Though do know it will be hard on your son for the next couple of years. Do not be surprised if he resents you for this decision, really it should be made by him, but it needs to be done now or not at all.” The doctor stood and held out the chart to Mrs Ernwick, there was paperwork with a signature saying she would give permission for her son to have the operation and be placed onto the treatment. She sat there looking to it a moment and eventually took a pen that was offered by the doctor and signed her name.
“I wish for my son to live the best life he can, if that means he has to be a woman then that will be so. It will be better this way, you will see. You will see he will turn into a fine woman who will love her mother.” She smiled lightly, the doctor however made notes to this effect, noting especially things about the mental state of Mrs Ernwick on her own chart. The doctor however did smile at the end as she soon moved to walk out, though paused a moment and turned.
“Mrs Ernwick, we will have to contact some specialists to resolve the matter of his gender on his birth certificate, and also the matter of your sons name. You should expect them to come in the next few days. But know they will probably advise you to move home, and start life anew in another town or city. Mostly for the benefit of your son. However the compensation your family should receive will be more than enough to get you a lovely now home and life. They will even help you find a new job once your recover and your son, I mean daughter, get herself new school and job also. You will have specialist careers who will look after you and help your son though all the changes.”
“Sasha....I want her name to be Sasha.” The woman said as she thought on the name for her own baby a moment, not choosing the same exactly but something similar to little Samantha who sadly was now turned off life support. The doctor smiled and made a note of the name before heading out of the private ward and leaving Mrs Ernwick to her own thoughts and Mrs Ernwick only smiled at the thoughts of having her own daughter, her baby girl back, she was more happy than she had been in these last few days, her little girl was not dead, just placed into another. It seemed she would miss her son’s but more she wanted her daughter back.
That night the surgeons set about their work, on Ryan, the operation itself would take a good number of hours and it took long into the night. The work though was more finishing up of what was already began in the repair work from the operations before. They were all unsure how Ryan would react to this, but they all were hoping for the best. Mrs Ernwick herself was placed into her operation that following morning, she never even got to find out the results from the operation itself, but in the sidelines, the doctor she spoke with was dealing with the issues this would all bring and the changes needed for both their lives.
The female doctor who has spoken with Mrs Ernwick, sat at the desk in her office, the small room with a single plant sitting on the right of the desk, it was much like the one in which she had initially seen the charts and spoken with the other doctors, though her room was a little more organized, she had a couple of pictures on the walls. To the left side of her room near her desk was her filing cabinet, full of her patients reports and documents, there she sat with two of the draws, open, the file for Ryan Ernwick on the desk before her, with another file below that. She sat on a rather comfortable chair, her laptop on the desk, though folded down as she was making notes on paper this late evening. She dare not glance to the clock in her room, knowing the hour would be late. Instead she reached for the phone on her desk and dailed a number. Calling her contact in which she could get this whole thing working, hoping he would be in his office and would answer her.
“Hello is that Micheal?”
“Yes speaking, Is that you Mary.” A male voice answered her, the voice sounded a little tired but spoken clearly.
“Yes its me, how did you know?”
“Your normally the only person who calls me after midnight.”
“Oh sorry if I disturbed you but I wouldn’t call if it wasn’t important.”
“Its all right Mary, how can I help you?”
“I need a favour, I have a rare thing going on here. You remember that accident I spoke to you about earlier.”
“Yes I do, why did the mother decide to accept, and go with the result of the findings?”
“She did, she seemed more than happy to accept, but I’m going to need some work done, the boys records will need to be changed, we will need to find a way to keep the media quiet on this, and also to help the family move. We also need authorization to use the new medication to help the boys womb develop properly.”
“I will send someone over with all the documentation, I’ll also get the guys on top of the media, though what do you want to say about the boy, or should I let our team handle that side?”
“I’ll let you handle it your better than me when it comes to this sort of thing.”
“All right, we’ll deal with the school and also the birth certificate, and other documentation and get them changed over. Do you have the name they changing over to?”
“Yes its Sasha Ernwick, the mother is Daniele Ernwick and the father was Liam Ernwick.”
“Right I got those noted down, so this Ryan is becoming Sasha Ernwick, nice name really, give my condolences to the family and we’ll get on this right away, as soon as the boy is awake and the mother is awake give us a call and we’ll get the ball rolling.”
“Thanks Micheal, I’ll see your guys soon then, for now we’ll get the hormone treatment started and take things from there.”
“Good luck to you Mary and I hope everything works out, I’ll make sure to have the right support workers for the job sent, I’ll also look into a new town and home for the family, they will be needing it after all this, talk to you soon.”
“Oh one other thing, about the other File we have, do you wish to try it with this one?”
“Hmm bring it to me if you can, and we will see if its acceptable, though if the mother asks, the life support is turned off.”
“All ready told her that, all right I’ll post the file to you and see what you can do okay?”
“I will do, nice to speak with you again Mary. Goodbye now.”
“Goodbye.”
Mary placed the phone down onto her desk as she gently wiped her forehead, she had a lot of work to do, after the talks with the mother, it seemed she was suffering from stress and was confusing her lost child for her daughter to be. She sighed a little, this would take some work but there might be a way to save the family and also help them in their new life. She would have to wait for the treatment to finish on the boy though before she could start her work. She sighed as she took out the forms and began to right down her report for the day. Making note of everything she had done and found today.
She sat there as she looked to the clock shaking her head a little as she noted the time. “One, thirty am....” She shook her head lightly. “I think its time I went home, I’ll finish this up tomorrow.” She said as she placed down her pen onto the desk, placing the forms back into the corresponding files before she stood and slowly went and locked her mostly empty office. Smiling a little though as she though about things to come. “This will be an interesting development... and if it all works, who knows what it could mean.” She smiled as she soon headed off home, though carrying with her in her bag, the file to Samantha Ernwick.
