Chapter 1
Prologue

Chapter Description: First chapter and simply sets the scene. Shorter than chapters to come but will at least set things up. My first story on here but not the first I have ever written. Spelling and grammar errors will be fixed soon.

Heavy rain was showing the road ahead, like a thick fog it blocked vision more than a few feet ahead, even with the fog lights blaring out into the darkness ahead, only the road little more than an arms length ahead could be seen. The road itself slick from the cascading rainfall that had been falling for more than two hours already, it seemed the storm clouds were set in for the night as the family car drove steadily through the falling darkness, even the wipers on the front windscreen struggled to keep up with the gushing rain water, it was as if the sky had become one great giant waterfall. The vehicle itself was a family car, a people carrier long and four wheel drive, able to go almost anywhere, though even this rain was slowing the speed considerably.

Inside the car sat a man in his early forties, there he sat at the drivers seat, sitting on the right hand side as he drove the large manual car, sitting quieter in the darkness as he concentrated on the road ahead, judging from his sitting position the man was around five foot nine inches with short black hair in a neat combed style, dressed in a black suit he kept his darkened features on the path ahead. To his left sat the man’s wife a tall woman in her early forties much like the man to her right. Her hair was a dark brown colour, tied back in a bun, her hair was shorter and only went to her shoulders as she preferred to keep it neat and tidy. She sat slightly further back than her husband, being slightly taller at five foot eleven inches, she was dressed in a smart black dress that matched the colour of her husbands suit.

Sitting in the back seats behind her mother was the seat adapted with a baby seat, fastened securely a young baby girl slept in the adapted chair, a soft blanked covering the young babes body only her head visible. Her hair lighter than her mothers, gently curled on her head in a cute way, light blond in colour the babe slept soundly. Sitting to the babies right was the families eldest son, he was around twenty years old, dressed in smart jeans and shirt, his hair gelled and styled into that bed head fashion, he was at a similar height to his mother, though he was somewhat chubby in his build, not fat just had a small amount of padding on his body that took away that slim edge that some people have.

Sitting on his own in the back seat of the car was the middle child of the family aged eighteen he sat, dressed up in a similar suit to his father, though his hair was in the same bed head style as his older brother, he was around five foot ten inches, between his mother and father. His hair was a very light brown colour, though slightly darker with the gel, he was slim, and that that young flair to him still as he sat in the back on his own, simply staring out a window as the family drove onto their destination, his own eighteenth birthday party.

As the car drove, the rain continued to pelt down onto the road, bouncing up and causing additional spray onto the window of the car, the road ahead starting to ease off a little in the turns as it grow straight as they headed off from the b-road and headed out onto the main motorway, driving at a slightly reduced speed but still travelling at a good sixty miles an hour. Tough the man knew he could handle such speed, even in this weather he seemed a little nervous, though remained quiet as did the rest in the car, they were all simply sitting there looking out into the darkness as an emergency traffic notice came over the radio.

“We interrupt your regular program to being you this important news flash. The heavy rain is causing havoc on many of the smaller roads and there have even been a number of of Jack-knifed lorries on the motorways. It is reported that all drivers would be better to pull of into the services and wait out the storm like weather, and those on the motorways would be best to reduce their speeds and find a safe place to spot as the storm like weather is only getting worse with high winds on the way.” The radio then goes back to the regular music channel that they were listening to, cutting but to a nice calm song.

Time passed as the car continued on its travel through the heavy rain, the car sounding like it was being hit more by hail than rain itself and that I when it happened, a heavy thunk hit the front windscreen, a sudden bang that caused a large dent and crack in the screen, and at this speed this was perilous as the driver quickly went to slow but another slammed into the screen as he slammed on the breaks in a panic, everyone in the car was suddenly jolted forward and the car began to spin to one side, as it slowly came to a halt. “Is everyone all right?” The husband and father of the children spoke, though it was quickly drowned by the screeching of large breaks and before the family knew what hit them.

A crash resounded from the drivers side of the car, suddenly the metal buckled and pushed inward the family being thrown like rag-dolls to the side, lucky their seat belts held them in place, but it would be no held for the Husband and young man sitting behind him, as literally the metal work of the car buckles in on them, crushing them in their seats as the car buckled and the sound of cracking metal sounded throughout the air. The family never even knew what hit them before they were plunged into unconsciousness as the car was pushed into the darkness, before it finally came to a halt and the only sound remaining was the sound of hail as it bounced of the top of the mangled car.

“News reports in as the rain finally begins to clear, there is mayhem on the major motor ways leading to the city, a lorry has drove into a car that seemed to have spun out during the heavy rain, currently three survivors have been rushed to hospital, a young baby, an older woman and their son, sadly the husband and another of the sons was found dead, crushed by the lorry as it slammed into the drivers side. Police are not treating this as suspicious but as a tragic accident.”

“Ambulance and fire crews spend much of the early hours of this morning, digging through the reckage of the car as to save those still alive. Though the scene itself was said to be something out of a horror movie, even the young baby was found covered in blood within the car. The scene is being treated as a very tragic accident as it was found the lorry drivers breaks caused the wheels to lock, sending it at a fifty mile an hour slide on the slick ground into the car that has spun out as the lorry saw the flash of lights in the distance that caused him to break suddenly.”

“So far information on names has not been handed to us, though it was found that the family must have been heading to some sort of party or similar event, as they were dressed in dress wear. Our preys go out to their family and friends who at this time are being informed of the tragic accident. It has been found that the young baby is in a critical condition having suffered trauma to the brain, while the young man and their mother are in a critical but stable condition, more on this as we get more information.....In more news heavy hail from last night has been reported to having caused a number of.......”

Inside the hospital doctors stood in a side room as the radio read out the news, two male doctors and a female doctor stood looking over charts on the side of the room, on the charts was the reports from the accident currently being stated on the news. The room they were in was mostly bare with a desk and a seat along with some cabinets, it looked more like a simple office than anything more. Though the female doctor spoke first.

“I’m afraid its not looking good, the mother was pierced by metal during that crash that penetrated her left leg, we managed to remove the metal, however her left leg was badly damage...we’re debating weather it is worth saving or if we should just amputate it and save her from the years of recovery it will take. Though we are waiting on the surgeons reports before we go ahead, for now she is stable.” The other doctors stand there thinking as the woman pauses before one of the male doctors takes over speaking, though he pauses as he hears the radio.

“........Still more reports are coming in as more accidents are being reported due to the heavy rain and hail, it turns out a man was caught out in the hail as he passed through a park before arriving at his local pup, when he got inside the patrons said it looked as if a man who had been severely beaten had just walked in and medical aid was summoned to treat the man, though it is said he should recover well enough.......”

“Also the young boy, he suffered bruising to his head, back and arms, from the reports he should be fine and recover well, but we are unsure if any damage has been dealt to his brain, but also during the crash he was pinned down by the crushed roof of the car and in a nasty way, he was castrated there and then, though we have bee able to save his life, we are unsure if we can repair the damage but we will try all we can before having to make other decisions about what to do with him, though one of the surgeons said the damage was bad to the underlying muscle, nerves and tissue that it would be hard to fix the damage, sadly he will not be having any children. Even if they are able to restore his manhood.” The doctors were quite at this, such a shame that an accident could steal so much from this family, and yet the news was only coming in worse .

“......An update has come in about the crash on the motorway, after police invested the tachograph inside the lorry it turns out that the lorry was in fact not doing fifty but fifty five miles per hour, though it also showed just before the collision the breaks were used but the cars speed only then reduced down to just over fifty miles per hour before the lorry collided with the car. The lorry driver has been arrested however and will be charged on manslaughter for two accounts, though there is the possibility this may increase in number.....”

“Can someone turn off the radio please, its becoming a little distracting.” The female doctor spoke as the male walked over and quickly turned off the radio before the two looked back to the papers and then turned their attention to the other doctor in the room whom now seemed ready to speak.

“Worse of all is the young baby girl, it has been found that during surgery to remove bleeding on the brain that she took far more damage than first expected. Currently she is being kept alive on life support but the young baby is brain dead, it was confirmed by the neural surgeon and by second opinion, the child is gone and it would be best just to turn off the support. I know this will be hard on the mother, to lose a child this young and her husband and eldest son in a single crash and with her youngest son now unable to have children of his own, I think the stress of it all might be too much. I think we need to get the son and mother to more stable conditions and then speak with them about their future.” The doctors nod as they glance over the paperwork once more before heading out of the office, each having a slightly glum expression as they made there way out to inform the other nurses, but also to put a call through to support, as there is no doubt the family will be needed that now.
