Chapter 14
Epilogue

Chapter Description: Epilogue

Epilogue

Scotty focused hard on his latest clue. He knew it had to do with something people ate, something he might eat. He pictured yummy snacks in his head, wondering what it might be. Scotty knew he could solve the case, he was a detective after all. This was what he did. Sure it had been a long time since he solved any real cases, but this was different. He knew he could do it.

Then in the flickering light of the screen before him Scotty spotted just what he was looking for. With a welling up of pride he pointed and yelled, “It dere! On da apple! Da bwue paw!”

Just as if he could really hear Scotty, the man in the green striped shirt stopped before the apple and said, “What about the apple? Should I eat it now?”

“No!” Scotty yelled, giggling at the dumb grown-up. “Da cwue on da apple!”

The green-shirted man picked up the apple with the superimposed blue paw print and made as though he was going to bite into it, only stopping at the last moment and noticing the clue. “Oh!” the man announced in mock surprise, “There it is! Well aren’t you clever,” he praised, addressing the audience.

Scott lapped up the praise. He was clever! He was still a great detective.

The green-shirted man pulled out an animated notebook. “Okay, we better write down this clue we found,” he said.

Scotty nodded eagerly as he dropped to his knees and flipped open his own note-book, just like the green-shirted man’s. Scott grabbed a big blue crayon, clenching it awkwardly in his fist, and scribbled in the notebook, imagining he was writing for real, just like a big boy. When the green-shirted man was done, Scott dropped his crayon and hopped back up, gaping at the TV screen.

“You did a real good job today helping me find the apple for Blue. Thank you for playing along with me,” the man said in a cheery tone, waving goodbye.

“Tank You Thteve!” Scotty yelled back flapping his hand and singing “Bye-bye-bye-bye!” as his favourite TV show, Blue’s Clues, went to credits. As the theme music played Scotty hopped up and down, spinning around playfully, feeling his pee-pee brush back and forth between his thighs. Naturally Scotty was jaybirding again, he seemed to spend much of his time that way as he tried to emulate his practically nudist brother, Graham. Scotty wanted to be just like Graham. A small part of him remembered that once he and Graham hadn’t been brothers but had been grown-ups together. But that memory didn’t seem real anymore.

“Is your show over sweetie?” a voice asked, interrupting his play.

Scotty stopped spinning and faced Mummy, nodding. She was a very pretty blonde woman, dressed in a soft pink jumper that Scotty loved because it was so cuddly, and a pair of ankle-length tights. Just as with Graham, Scotty had a fuzzy memory of Mummy once being his little sister. Scotty didn’t see any contradiction there though. She had once been his sister, but there was no doubt she was his mummy now. Older and younger were concepts far beyond Scotty these days. He simply understood that Mummy was ?bigger’ because she wore fancy clothes, drove a car and read books to him. She could read all the words with no hesitation at all while all Scotty saw was indecipherable symbols. He much preferred looking at the lovely bright drawings in the books Mummy read him when he went beddy-byes.

“Well I’m glad you enjoyed your show sweetie-pie. I think we should get you out in the sun, but first do you need to make potty?”

Scotty thought a moment then shook his head.

“Are you sure you don’t need to poo-poo or tinkle?” she aksed suggestively.

But Scotty still shook his head. “No potty-pot,” he insisted.

“Okay Scotty. Then let’s not waste this beautiful day with you all cooped up inside. Get out back and play with your sis. But you play nice. Don’t be rough, you understand?”

Scotty nodded, eager to get out and play. Mummy motioned for him to go and he didn’t need telling twice. Scotty toddled quickly out the sliding door and into the sun. He enjoyed its warm glow across all his skin. The wooden deck was warm under his feet and a pleasant breeze brushed through his hair messing it up even more than usual. Graham was sat on his bottom on the deck sucking his thumb while absentmindedly playing with his pee-pee. Tegan was sat in the little kiddie pool in the yard. Though it was only knee-depth she wore a bright yellow and pink pair of floaties on her arms. Otherwise she too wore nothing at all.

Scotty made a bee-line for the pool, excited the prospect of splashing around. He climbed in and sat on his bum, facing Tegan. She had been his wife, then his baby girl, and now she was his little sister. He splashed his hands, sending water everywhere. It made Tegan smile and giggle too. “Babadoobaaeeeh,” she babbled.

Scotty stopped splashing and crawled over to Tegan, feeling her boobies curiously. Tegan didn’t seem bothered by his simple explorations. Scotty paused and looked into her wide, blank eyes. There was no doubt that he still loved her with all his heart. No drug could change that. Now the husband and wife were both naked in the pool together, legs entwined, staring into each others’ eyes. The connection was still there but now Scotty only knew one way to express the love he felt.

Scotty leant forward and planted a big wet smooch on Tegan’s cheek. “Wuv you!” he announced to her.

Tegan responded by blowing spit bubbles at her husband, spittle covering her chin. There were no more late nights, no more crime scenes and shoot-outs for Scotty. He was free of all that now. He and Tegan had what they always wanted. Endless time spent together with no work or money to worry about. The only thing that had really changed was what they wanted to spend that free time doing.

So it was that when their mummy came out to the yard to check on them she found the two lovers happily munching away at each other’s toes. And their long summer of innocence had only just begun.
