Chapter 3
Which Witch is Which?

Chapter Description: Lindsay explores two strange new feelings--one in her heart and one in her Pull-Ups.

“Stay here,” Sara said, pulling Lindsay’s High School Musical shirt back over her head.

“Like I’m really going anyplace else?”

“I meant don’t get off the bag. I don’t want any... um, accidents in my car.”

Lindsay shot her the dirtiest look a four-year-old could muster. Leaving her at five hadn’t worked. She apparently had hit a growth spurt near the end of her fourth year, as the clothes didn’t fit. She was four years old again. And she didn’t like it.

Neither did Sara, for that matter. That’s why she made her young friend sit on the Wal-Mart bag which had once contained her new clothes. If Lindsay did have another accident, hopefully the bag would protect her upholstery.

Lindsay had a lot to think about while she was waiting for Sara to come back with her “new” new clothes. But mostly she thought about the drive to Wal-Mart. Had Sara’s magic started messing with her mind, giving her baby-like tendencies? She didn’t feel any different mentally for the most part...except she was fixated on Sara’s bra. Not even the bra...her breasts. Sara was pretty conservative when it came to clothing, maybe even a little shy. The drive from the theme park had been the first time Lindsay ever saw her in any state that even came close to nudity. And now that’s all she could think about. Isn’t that what babies think about? Because that’s where their meals come from.

But Lindsay wasn’t thinking about drinking from her friend’s...no, that was too disgusting a thought to even finish. She was just thinking about them, the way they looked, the way they perfectly matched her friend, the way she looked, even her personality somehow. And she thought about how much she had trusted Sara tonight in the first place. She wouldn’t have even believed anyone else if they had told her they had “magical powers” or whatever, much less allowed them to experiment on her. But she trusted Sara.

The Jetta’s chirp interrupted Lindsay’s thoughts as Sara stood on the passenger side. She opened Sara’s door.

“About time,” Lindsay said as Sara lifted her off the bag.

“And here I was just about to compliment you for being such a good girl while I was gone.”

“Yeah, yeah. Did you get my clothes so I can be me again?”

“Not exactly.”

“What do you mean ?Not exactly?’”

“I got you this instead.” Sara pulled a witch costume out of one of her Wal-Mart bags. A toddler-sized witch costume.

“What the hell is that?” It sounded almost funny coming from the mouth of a four-year-old.

“It’s your new clothes! OK, so I was in the kiddie section looking for diapers...“

“DIAPERS?”

“Let me finish, Little Miss Jump to Conclusions. I was in the kiddie section looking for diapers because even though we’re obviously going to turn you back to normal, you still have to be four until we go back through the gate at the theme park. And I know you’re embarrassed about what happened earlier, so I thought I’d be a good person and buy my best friend some diapers.”

“I’m not wearing diapers!”

“No, you’re not. Because apparently they don’t even sell diapers at Wal-Mart that fit a four-year-old. At least I’m not sure that they would. They have all these stages and sizes and letters and numbers. I don’t really know.”

“Good.”

“So I got these instead.” Sara opened a second bag and produced a package of Pull-Ups, complete with a picture of a grinning toddler on the front.

“Training pants! Like that’s better?”

“I know, it’s ironic, right? Because we could go through, like, a thousand of these, and until we physically make you older, you’re never gonna be potty trained.”

Lindsay grimaced.

“Besides, they’ve got, like, Disney princesses on them. So you can... pee on Cinderella, I guess. Apparently that’s a selling point.”

“No.”

“No, that’s not a selling point?”

“No, I’m not wearing them.”

“This coming from the girl who forty-five minutes ago was stripped from the waist, squatting in a bush at a theme park parking lot because she was afraid she was going to poop the pants she just wet.”

“Are you going to change me back or what?”

“Fine.”

Two minutes later, a beautiful twenty-two-year-old sat on a crinkly Wal-Mart bag, which she quickly pulled out from beneath herself.

“Clothes?”

Sara handed her the bag containing the adult clothes. “You got panties this time. No candy corns, though.”

Lindsay quickly pulled them on. “So are you planning to stand there and watch?”

“Sorry.” Sara’s face turned red as she looked away.

The process didn’t take long. “You can look now.”

Sara turned around to see her friend fully grown and clothed for the first time since their original Wal-Mart outing that day. It seemed like an eternity ago. She walked to the driver’s side of the Jetta, got in and turned the ignition.

“So you never told me what the witch’s outfit is for,” Lindsay said.

“Oh yeah. I was in the kiddie section picking out... those things, and they already had the Halloween costumes half off. And I happened to think that we needed something for you to wear back in the park because obviously you don’t want to have to put your wet jeans on AGAIN, so I got it. It was like five dollars.”

“Seems to me like you should be the one wearing a witch’s costume.”

“Yeah, I didn’t really think about the irony at the time... but yeah.”

“You’d look cute as a witch.”

“I am a witch.”

“I meant one with a pointy hat.”

* * *

The witch’s costume was purple with black buttons and ruffles, and a matching purple hat complete with an elastic chinstrap.

“I’m not the only one who would look cute as a witch, apparently,” Sara said, adjusting the elastic band.

“Shut up,” Lindsay smiled. Costume in place, Sara helped the four-year-old out of the car and into the theme park parking lot.

“You’ve got the bag with the clothes this time, right?”

“Right here.” Sara held up the Wal-Mart bag as proof.

“Good.” Lindsay bent over to adjust the strap on her right shoe.

“Um, Linds? We have a problem.”

“Today’s just full of them, isn’t it?”

“No, your... butt. It’s... bare.”

Lindsay had felt the cool air under the witch’s dress. She assumed it was supposed to be that way.

“So where are my panties?”

“The ones in the big-girl bag or the ones in the trunk?”

“The ones that go with this outfit.”

“Um, remember when we decided you didn’t need them because it was only going to be like fifteen minutes?”

“Sara! Who buys a skirt, even for a four-year-old, and doesn’t stop to think, ?Hmm... we’re going to need panties to go with this’?”

“Me, I guess.”

“So back to Wal-Mart?”

“Lindsay, it’s getting late. The park’s only open for like another two hours.”

“So I’m going to have to pay to get in? You know, we’ve spent like a hundred dollars in clothes today. Even if I could still get in free, it wouldn’t be worth it.”

“Well you can.”

“What do you mean?”

Sara looked at the Pull-Ups, still in the back seat.

“Really, Sara?”

“It’s only for fifteen minutes.”

“This has been the longest fifteen minutes of my entire life.”

Sara opened the package and pulled out a pair of training pants. She sat on the passenger seat, holding them open for Lindsay in the parking lot. “Step in.”

“Sara, I know how to put on panties!”

“These aren’t panties.”

“Same thing.”

“Have you ever peed in your panties?”

“Since you wouldn’t let me wear any earlier today, technically no. Except like when I was 5.”

“Well you can pee in these. And no one will know.” Sara pulled the protective underwear up under the witch’s ruffles.

“Good because I think I just did.”

“What!” Sara yanked the Pull-Up back down.

“Gotcha!”

“If you were my daughter, I’d spank you for that!”

“If I was your daughter, I’d be afraid you were going to turn me into a frog!” Lindsay laughed.

“I told you I can’t do that.”

“You tell me a lot of things.”

“Have any of them not been true?”

“No....”

“OK, then. And no more fibs! Potty training is serious business, young lady!”

* * *

The bathroom didn’t look any cleaner than the first time they had shared the handicapped stall. The witch’s costume hung on the door with the Wal-Mart bag, into which Sara dropped Lindsay’s unused Pull-Up.

“Eww, don’t put that in there!”

“Why not?”

“Because I’ve been wearing that!”

“So? Your big-girl panties are in here, and you wore them in the same place on the drive over.”

“That’s different.”

“How?”

“It just is. And stop calling them my big-girl panties. They’re just panties.”

“No they’re not. Those are your big-girl panties.” Sara pulled the Pull-Up back out. “And these are your little-girl panties.”

“Just turn me into a big girl again.”

Sara grabbed her friend’s hands and willed the transformation. God, she was beautiful. Sara reached for the Wal-Mart bag.

“Linds, there’s something I really need to talk to you about.”

“Well, the last time you said that, I ended up as a four-year-old.”

“I recall that conversation going differently. And it was totally your choice!”

“And now I’m standing naked in a bathroom stall talking to you about it.” The situation seemed so familiar by now, Lindsay made no effort to cover herself.

“Oops, sorry.” Sara handed Lindsay the plastic bag.

“Sara?” Lindsay looked into the bag.

“Yeah?”

“Is this a joke?” She pulled out the wet jeans and High School Musical shirt. Sara’s eyes widened.

“Oh crap. I grabbed...“

“The wrong bag. You know what, forget it. We only have an hour and half left. Just turn me back into a kid, I’ll wear the costume, and we can do the mazes, and then we can go back to the car and I can be a grown-up for the rest of my life.”

Sara obliged. This time the Pull-Up went on first, followed by the dress and then the hat.

“Just throw the pants away,” Lindsay said. Maybe we can still get our money back for the shirt. I don’t ever want to see those pants again.”

“It seems like such a waste just to throw them away. I mean, we can’t get our money back for them now, but maybe we could, like, donate them to Goodwill or something.”

“Sara, eventually I’m going to be taller than you again. And if you don’t want me to kick your ass at that point, I suggest you throw. The pants. Away.”

They left the pants behind in the big steel trash bin beneath the paper towels. “I think you should carry me,” Lindsay said as they exited the bathroom.

“Carry you? Linds, don’t start that again.”

“Well it was your fault you brought the wrong clothes. My legs are little, and I won’t be able to keep up if you want to see everything.”

“I’m not carrying you. We’ll rent a stroller.”

“A stroller? They’re for babies!”

“Well...?”

“I am NOT a baby!”

“You’re in diapers, aren’t you?”

“Training pants...I mean, little-girl panties. Right?”

Sara sighed. “Let’s just get the stroller, OK?”

The stroller rental process reminded Sara of what she had seen her parents go through when they rented cars at airport kiosks. The man behind the counter demanded a copy of her driver’s license and a debit card payment, and had her sign several forms, one of which she wasn’t sure, but she thought may have been for insurance of some sort. In case she got into a stroller-on-stroller collision, she guessed. Finally, a second park employee wheeled a turquoise stroller with the park’s logo around to the front of the booth.

Sara lifted Lindsay and sat her into the seat...at which time Lindsay’s eyes almost came out of her head.

“Sara, I need the potty... NOW!”

“I thought you didn’t know when you had to go?”

“That’s the point, I didn’t?”

“Oh, you poor thing. Are you wet?”

“Among other things.”

“You mean...?”

Tears rolled down Lindsay’s red face. “I pooped! I didn’t even know I did it until you made me sit down!”

“Sweetie, let’s go get you cleaned up, OK?”

Lindsay was crying too hard by now to answer.
