Chapter Description: Chapter 2
Lunch went by fast. Jaxon ate alone, locked away in his room like always. He passed the next hour or two listening to music, checking his phone, and playing games, all while dreading having to babysit his sister.
Soon, his temporary exile was interrupted, as his mother made her way into his room, and got him up and walking. Every time Jaxon was forced to babysit, she showed him everything he'd need around the house, even though he was rather familiar with how to deal with his sister and where to find things. Jaxon simply let his eyes glaze over and his brain wander into a mindless state. He'd follow his mom around, nodding when needed as she told him everything he'd need to know. Next thing he knew, he was sitting on the couch next to his little sister, watching the same stupid reality show that she had been watching with their dad earlier. Their parents had left, and now he had to babysit her until they got home. Lame, he thought. But, as his mom said earlier, it was true that he had nothing better to do today.
"When are mom and dad getting home?" Ava would ask, quickly turning her head over towards her big brother. Jaxon would sigh once again, putting one of his hands to his face, as he'd tiredly look over at her. He'd yawn before responding, "I don't really know. I think mom said 9:00 or 10:00?" Ava would nod, before a sad expression would come over her face. She could see that her brother was more upset than usual today. "Why are you so sad?" She'd ask, her voice full of care and thoughtfulness. Jaxon would scoff at her question, not seeming to care about how concerned she sounded. "Why do you care? Just watch your stupid show. " Jaxon would then take out his phone, once again looking at his text messages. Still nothing. He'd slam his phone down on the side of the couch as his sister would grimace. "I don't know why I had to babysit you. Why couldn't they just get a fucking babysitter? " He'd exclaim, his voice sounding angry and upset as he threw his hands into the air. Ava would slowly back up against the other side of the couch, her face looking a bit scared. "Jaxon, why are you so angry about this? Mom said that you didn't have anything going on today anyway. " Jaxon would once again scoff at her statements, glaring over at the girl next to him. "Well.. uh-Well.. Umm, maybe I.. Maybe I was going to do something, I dunno.." In an instant, the anger in his voice and face would fade, replaced with sadness and gloom. It was true that he wasn't going to do anything today. Even though he constantly looked at his phone, waiting for someone to text him, he knew nobody would. Although there were people who he occasionally talked to, and who he somewhat considered to be his 'friends,' none of them actually wanted to talk to him. None of them were going to hang out with him. None of them cared about him. His face would find its way back into his hands, as he'd turn his glance away from Ava. Ava's look would then turn from one of sudden fear, to one of sympathy. She was all too familiar with her brother's random outbursts of anger, followed by extreme bouts of sadness. It was an issue he often dealt with. She felt sorry for causing another such bout, and began to speak, but was quickly cut off by Jaxon. "Just shut up and watch the show." And she'd do just that, letting the room fall into awkward silence.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was nearly an hour later, when Jaxon would be rocked out of his depressive daydreaming by the sound of his sister walking back into the room. At some point during the afternoon, she got up and left, but Jaxon hadn't noticed. He'd look up at her, as she walked up to him with a bottle of water in hand. "I got this for you, 'cause I thought you'd be thirsty." Ava would tell her brother, as she'd reach the bottle out to Jaxon. Jaxon would tiredly take the bottle in his hands, and begin to sip. Perhaps if his eyes had not still been glazed over with the clouds of daydreaming, or if he had not been so tired, he would have noticed the sparkles in the bottle.. Or, perhaps he would have noticed a slight difference in taste if he had been more alert.. But as he chugged the water bottle, Ava would look on with delight and anticipation. He'd notice some side effects as soon as he set the empty bottle down and looked at his sister standing in front of him."I'm kinda dizzy." He'd tell her, as he'd put his hand on his forehead. He was sweating. His heart was beating faster. He felt nauseous. A groan escaped from his mouth, as he stood up. "I don't feel good.. What the fuck was in that water Ava?" His voice would tremble as he said it, leaning against the side of the couch as he'd look down. The dizziness would grow stronger, the world around him spinning faster, all while Ava would stand next to him looking on at her brother. "Maybe you should sit back down?" She would suggest. But, as soon as the words would escape her mouth, her older brother would come tumbling down onto the ground.
When Jaxon would awake, his eyes would be met by those of Ava. Her eyes looked astounded, as if she was seeing color for the first time.. As he'd slowly come to his senses, he'd notice differences in how he felt. He had felt tired.. now, he felt rejuvanated. As he looked around, he'd also notice differences in his perspective.. everything looked larger, taller. Even Ava looked taller. He'd slowly begin to sit up. And that's when he'd first see his hands. They looked small, chubby. "Wh-Wha-" His voice.. it sounded so high pitched, so foreign yet so familiar. Then, his clothes.. His plain clothes had been replaced by.. by.. Jaxon would waste no time jumping up and running to the mirror on the side of the living room. A childish shriek could be heard throughout the house as he set eyes on himself.
