Chapter 1
Targets

Chapter Description: Sharon had kept a big secret from her boyfriend for too long. It was about time he knew about it. How was she going to go through with it?

Shawn and Sharon had been living together for a year. The decision was quite hasty on Sharon’s part, but Shawn seemed very much ready for it. Shawn seemed like a nice guy most of the time although some immaturity shows up once in a while. Sharon was a bit surprised when he had asked her to move in together. It turned out that Shawn was more responsible than she thought. She still could not trust him completely though. Sometimes it seemed like he was hiding things from her. Sharon always brushed that thought off because she believed that she felt that way due to her own guilt for hiding something from Shawn. She had not told him yet that she is a witch.

Most of her other witch friends have kept it hidden from their boyfriends and are fine with it that way. They just read their boyfriends’ minds whenever they need to. Sharon believed in honesty and has not managed to be comfortable with hiding her powers from Shawn. She was always very different from the other witches. She had not used her powers to make herself exceptionally beautiful like the others have. She felt that Shawn should be in love with the real beauty, and not something that had been made up using supernatural forces. As a result, she had allowed herself be slightly chubbier than what was “normally” liked. It turned out that Shawn has a thing for bigger women and so it worked out fine for her. Most of her friends said that she was probably not meant to be a witch. She had not even used her magic to look into Shawn’s mind.

After a year of hiding her secret while living in the same house with Shawn, Sharon woke up one summer morning with her guilt making her determined to get everything out in the open that very day. However, she realized that she needed to know everything about Shawn as well and decided to use her magic for it for once.

Sharon got up from bed earlier than Shawn. The potion took about half an hour to prepare. It was meant to let the drinker be completely himself or herself and show their real self to the world. It was mixed with the morning coffee. By the time Shawn had woken up, Sharon had prepared a big breakfast for the two of them. Shawn seemed quite happy about it as they sat together for it. After the breakfast, Sharon told Shawn that since they had been together for so long, it was time that they left nothing hidden between the two of them. They both agreed upon leaving no secrets untold by the end of the day.

They decided to spend the morning at the beach and then rent some movies for the evening so that they can talk. The beach idea was Shawn’s and he reluctantly gave in to Sharon’s request to sit at home watching something while talking. Sharon found it a bit odd that he only agreed to do that after she promised to give him “something special” tonight. She could not remember last time she had to do something like that to persuade Shawn.

The sun was high up by the time they reached the beach. While they were walking up to the beach, Sharon had noticed that Shawn was looking around a lot more than he usually did. He put on his shades after a while. She could not tell which way he was looking at, but she got the feeling that his eyes were moving a lot especially when they were nearing the beach full of women in bikinis. She concluded that Shawn probably suppressed this level of immaturity most of the time and the potion was letting it out at the moment. She convinced herself that it was nothing to be worried about.

After lying on the warm beach for a while, Sharon started talking about her childhood and tried to tell him about how she found out that she was a witch. Shawn gave only short replies to whatever Sharon said. She kept getting frustrated. However, she kept trying to get his attention. She could not admit to herself that it might be possible that Shawn really did not have any strong feelings for her.

After some effort Shawn started looking towards her more. Sharon’s hopes went up for a bit until she noticed the rising bulge in his pants and turned her head to see a chubby black woman with large breasts sunbathing in a tight yellow bikini behind Sharon.

“What are you looking at?” snapped Sharon.

“Nothing. I’m listening.” Shawn replied quickly.

“Do you like that woman?”

“No! I mean now that you mention it, she does have hot breasts” Shawn paused for a moment. “But I’m with you. It doesn’t matter.”

“What does that supposed to mean?”

Shawn looked away quickly towards the ocean. “Nothing. Look, can we just go now? The sun is giving me a headache.”

Sharon sighed and got up quickly. She was holding her tears back. She could not believe that she had not seen Shawn’s real side till now. Still, as they walked towards the video store, she tried to convince herself that maybe the potion had failed and had driven Shawn out of control. She would have to do a mind reading to be sure after she has told him about her true self.

The video store was not very busy. There was only one girl at the counter and a couple of customers walking around. Sharon walked around until she found the movies she wanted to watch with Shawn. As she made her way to the front counter, she noticed Shawn talking to the girl. She was in her early twenties and by the tone of her skin Sharon could tell that she was of Indian origin. She was wearing a miniskirt and a small matching top. As Sharon moved closer to the counter, she noticed what Shawn’s eyes were focused on. It did not make her feel any better, but she was still not going to go out of her way and do something right away. She still needed to be sure whether thoughts about Sharon were in any part of Shawn’s mind at all.
