Chapter 7
Epilogue

A few days later, there were a series of knocks on Ethan Alexander’s door, the first of which went thoroughly unanswered. After a guideline specified duration, officers forced the lock and made their way into the hall. They’d been called by Ethan’s employer to see if he still existed, indeed, if he’d ever existed. They entered the living room and immediately spied a small mountain of children’s clothes.

"So whaddya think happened here?"

"Well, looks like some kinda weirdo, that’s for sure," replied the second officer, picking up a training bra with the butt of his sidearm and eyeing it curiously.

Another knock at the door shook them out of their speculation.

"Hellooo?"

"Come on through," yelled the first officer.

The young mailman eventually found the source of the call and entered brandishing another small packet. He frowned at the sight of the police officers.

"Something happen?"

"Guy’s gone missing, seems."

"I just got a delivery here needs a signature."

"Return to sender," said the first officer without hesitation.

"No, wait," said the second, feeling something in his bones he couldn’t quite put his finger on, "Could be handy for the investigation. Hand it here."

The first officer looked on as the packet changed hands and the mailman left.

"If you say so. It’s your paperwork," he frowned as the second officer opened up the packet.

"... the fuck?" exclaimed the second officer as he removed a small training bra from the packet.

"Like I said, pal," continued the first officer, chuckling, patting his partner on the back as he left the scene, "It’s your paperwork."

Left alone in the non-existent Mr. Alexander’s living room, holding this curious training bra, Officer Newton finally knew what the feeling in his bones meant. He knew what must be done.

It was time for him to head home ...
