“Oh well, what a waste of a man! Let’s get you two dressed before your big date tonight, okay sweeties?” said Sarah to the two actual baby girls who sat silently with tears running down their faces, “Come on, Clara.”

Clara pushed Emily onto her back while Sarah laid down Mary, prepping them for their diaper change right next to one another. Ben watched, still sobbing, sitting on his bottom with a pink pacifier in his mouth which was attached to his pink party dress. As his wife and daughter had their bottoms powdered and lifted into diapers simultaneously, he could only think about how he was so utterly helpless.

As the two girls were taped into their matching diapers, they were dressed, too: Mary in a plain pink sleeper and Emily in a frilly mock-up of a ballerina’s tutu with fluorescent pink ruffles which still managed to leave her white, plastic diaper exposed.

“Aww, don’t you two look cute! I told you, Emily, you have a baby sister now! You two could be twins! Sucking on your bottles together, riding in your stroller together, getting your diapers changed together when you make poopies at the same time, doesn’t that sound nice?” Clara asked, not expecting a response from her baby classmate.

“Like I said,” she continued, “I really don’t think Andrew would want to date a baby. I put you in a ballerina’s dress, do you like it? This way, maybe seventeen years from now, you can get a boy to like you! Just make sure that you don’t go poo-poos all over it, okay? Be a good little girl and maybe teach your daddy not to get his dress dirty, too. Remember, he’s never had to wear pretty girl clothes before, like you. It’s just a shame that you can’t be sexy like us, right girls?”

“Right!” said the other two girls, laughing, in unison.

“Well,” Clara said, pressing a combination of buttons on the side of the slate, “we have to be going now. Lots more people to visit. Besides, we can’t be seen hanging out with a bunch of little crying babies, can we? But don’t worry, Ben, I called your ex-wife, Cassandra, a week in advance to come pick you guys up while ‘your parents’ are out and ‘the babysitter’ is asleep. You got the letter, didn’t you? I’m sure she’ll love seeing how her ex-husband has done without her. I think it’s great that she’ll be back in your life, changing your diapers and taking care of you again! If you’re lucky, maybe she’ll even let the three of you breast feed! Sarah will play her part and stay to make sure she picks you up. Say ‘bye-bye’ sweeties!”

All three infants cried profusely as Clara pressed her final combination of strokes onto the slab, which re-materialized the shattered back door into perfect condition. She grabbed the handle, swung the door easily open before winking back at the crying babies on the carpet, and shutting it softly behind her.
