Chapter Description: A short continuation chapter setting the scene for later events.
Chapter 6
The journey home was not quite the sobering dread it usually was for Sam, the bus rattling and rumbling over the bumps and ruts on the poorly kept road.
Sam had taken a liking to this weird new girl he was to show around the school, she was kind of pretty, and those annoyances throughout the day were kind of likable.
He even gave a shy wave in the girl’s direction as the bus disappeared leaving behind but a cloud of dust.
He turned with a sigh to the sight of his small estate, the houses here were rather large wooden buildings each with their own barn or large garage.
The network of roads were mainly dirt tracks out here, so the vehicle of choice were pickups, SUV’s and old station wagons, his family had the rare fortune of owning two cars, his step mom’s old Buick and his Shelby.
He eyed the Mustang as it glistened in the sun parked infront of the barn, the tyres and lower sides of the car had a light frosting of dust which only added to its aggressive features.
How he longed to drive the car, but still a few years away yet, he’d rather it stay in the barn under cover, he ran a finger through the dust and up the sharp fastback body work, this car was the last thing he had of his father.
He hadn’t noticed his sister in the door way.
“Hands off the car!!!!” she screamed pulling him back by his hair, Sam retaliated instinctively swinging wildly in anger and catching her face.
A rather stunned Sal stammered back clutching her eye as tears welled up, she ran back to the house and Sam knew he was going to be in big trouble…
Back on the bus, no one had even seen the strange quiet girl leave the bus.
