Chapter 1
Prologue

Treasures Gifts of May:

Prologue

A tall and slender man, standing six feet even, dressed in navy blue slacks, a white dress shirt, and a navy blue blazer, and radiating an inviting aura, smiled as he read the day’s paper. On the page he was reading, it said this was the coldest June day on record. The man lowered his paper, nearly folding it before tucking it under his arm. He next took out a note from his pocket, staring at it with serious intent. After reading it several times, the man looked at the house in front of him, focusing on the mailbox that read Bridges. The man scanned the second-story windows, his glance holding a warmth that could make someone feel immeasurably warm in a raging blizzard. He smiled, a gesture that radiated incredible kindness when he found the window belonging to the oldest of the residents’ three children. The man gently raised his left hand to his mouth, curling his fingers softly. He looked back at the window, his smile turning warmer as his eyes lingered on the open window for a moment longer. The man turned his attention to his hand and blew into it, his breath coming out in a frosty vapor. A white light shone from the man’s palm, and he spread his fingers out. The light lifted from the man’s palm, pulsing with a warmth that made one think of a warm fire on a winter’s day. The light pulsed softly for a few moments before shifting into the shape of a butterfly. The creature was white as fresh snow, carrying the feeling of watching the fresh powder falling from the sky for the first time. Snow-white snowflakes gently fell from the strange magical creature as it gracefully floated up to the second story. The man formed a connection with his creation as it floated through the open window. The butterfly circled the bed of the Bridges’ oldest daughter, white dust gently falling from it, silently beating its wings over the girl’s body. The second the dust touched the girl, it softly faded into her. The girl stirred slightly, and she shifted in her bed, pulling her covers back and exposing her chest. The butterfly gracefully floated down onto the girl’s chest, beating its wings with a silent rhythm that almost seemed musical. The man lost the connection to his creation as the butterfly seamlessly sank into the girl’s chest, causing the glow from the creature to spread across the girl’s entire body. The man blinked as his sight returned to him. He looked up at the window, catching the light as it faded into darkness. He smiled, the kindness that had been there before growing tenfold. The man spoke for the first time since appearing before the Bridges’ house, his voice ringing out like soft, harmonious bells. “Enjoy your treasured gift to come, my sweet child. I will see you later.” The man turned away from the house and strolled down the road, a lightness in his step that one wouldn’t expect from a man of his size. A chilly, winter-like mist suddenly surrounded the man, causing his form to shift. He got shorter, losing nearly a foot and a half. His body becoming noticeable rounder and softer, giving the man an even more inviting aura than before. The mist spiraled around the man as his attire shifted, changing from its navy blue color to a more crimson red color. The mist completely surrounded the man, blocking him from sight. A second later, a gentle wind stirred, blowing the mist away. The man had completely vanished, leaving only the newspaper he was reading earlier, floating gently on the night air. (G Corner) This is an experiment I am going to try to commit to. The plan is to finish a chapter during my days off from work. Wish me luck in this task, and enjoy this secret holiday-themed tale!
