I tried out Infinite Worlds (a review)

I wanted to share what I learned trying Infinite Worlds. I did it as a discussion. but it needed more formatting than that supports.

Complete Story

I was intrigued by Airum’s posts about AR stories in the Infinite Worlds site so I tried it out last week and I wanted to share what I have learned. It is basically a hybrid of a text game and a choose your own adventure. The system suggests 3 actions you can take and you can use them as-is, edit a choice they give you or type up your own choice from scratch including things you want to have happen in the next section.

First, I did the Maternal Confusion story where a young mother and her husband bring in a wet nurse. I discovered that you can put it into storyteller mode and that it behaves differently than the default game mode. You can also edit the parameters of the story. I edited it and changed the psychological regression to a physical regression and it changed the story path to a physical AR story. You can also back up in the story and change an action to be on a new or different path or start over and do things very differently.

The system works on a points/cost approach where you get a certain number of points to use for free and a certain number of free points every day. Every action you input consumes however many points it requires for the AI to generate the new content and it varies based on how long and complex the action is. If you run out of points you have to wait for more free points the next day or you have to purchase points.

I created a story called The Regression Dance. I made the scenario and the system created the title. You can edit the title but I decided to just leave it. It is about a married 35 year old business executive who takes youth pills so she can fill the empty slot in her niece’s dance team. Without another dancer they don’t qualify for the summer competitions. Her husband is going to be traveling for a lot of the summer and she is on a break from work after a successful project so she has the time. She has to live under her sister Carrie’s supervision once she gets to young so there are relationship adjustments and conflicts. How she relates to her husband obviously changes during the early part of the story and when he visits at different times over the summer. I went a long way into the story and then tweaked it and started again. Since you manage the story yourself then you control the pace and focus of the changes. I can see where even the same starting scenario can have almost infinite variations.

I don’t have any relationship or connection with Infinite Worlds (other than as a customer). In the interest of full disclosure,I do get credit for people playing my scenario but I wouldn’t post anything about it here if I didn’t think that a lot of you might enjoy Infinite Worlds.

You can access The Regression Dance here:

https://infiniteworlds.app/#YNk3fw

You can edit the scenario you are playing at any point and there are links to see secret info about what the system is doing in each piece of content generated by an action. You can edit it and change the approach or focus and it will affect the results of the next turn.

I would recommend playing some free rounds and when you have a feel for it, look at the Edit details and then maybe come up with your own scenario. You can have a private scenario or share it as a community world. I did that with The Regression Dance.

You can export the story you generate as a pdf ro text file so you would use it as the basis for a story. The second person approach means you would probably want to edit it to a more traditional third person narrative but that probably takes a lot less effort than writing it all from scratch.

Anyways, I do recommend that you try it if you are interested at all and share what you learn or generate with all of us here,

Thank you Heidegger. I would like to add that I have been using Infinite Worlds for the past 3 days and...I am bleeping obsessed with it. The AI is pretty responsive (I mainly use Lion), and Storyteller mode is awesome. Every once in a while I've had to correct my instructions because the AI misunderstood what I wanted but I'd say the ratio was about 5 times out of 150 tries. And most of the time the AI adds things I did not think up but are truly well done. I initially played the Headmistress game as a game, won (I figured out the regression process, reversed it on my character, then went hunting for rabbits) Well bunnies, tiny regressed baby bunnies who wailed at my feet. At that point I switched to Story mode and never looked back. I love how much detail you can give and that 95 percent of the time it will take it all in and work with it. I will admit I went on for too long in the first story regressing people...way too long. I did throw in a twist ending though for those who fight their way through. I did the Maternal story second and scripted out the first dozen inputs or so, like a good football coach scripts plays. A couple of times the AI came up with a unique option and I went with it, not having thought about it. Anyway, after two days doing that one I have 4 versions of the story. The first 20 turns are identical, then they split when Mei decides to go out clubbing with two of her old friends. Two old friends that were not in the original outline of the story but whom I created on the fly and the AI did a wonderful job with. I also advise peeking at the 'Secrets', it gives ideas and allows you to see more depth to the story. The image generators are okay. They could be better. And the AI can't seem to handle a real looking diaper on an adult, nor understand the difference between an adult and a child. Babies? Sure. Just be sure to use the word 'Infant'. Anyway, I'll post my 'stories' soon. I think I'll try to create something from one of my old ideas. Superheroes anyone? PS: My biggest obstacle these past bunch of years has been time. Writing takes time. This writing does not. Let's see what I can do.
