Sam was carried back through to her bedroom and placed on her bed. Jade walked over to the closet and looked at the clothes inside, she shook her head. Next she went to the chest of drawers and, yet again, expressed her disapproval with some tuts.

“This won’t do at all.” Jade finally said.

Sam was still untangling herself from the tightly wrapped towel and no sooner had she got it off than Jade was standing beside the bed with some clothes. Sam was about to stand up when Jade grabbed her ankles and started sliding some panties up her legs.

“Hey!” Sam complained as she lifted her butt grateful that at least she was a little more covered up, “I can dress myself!”

“I’m not so sure you can do ANYTHING for yourself.” Jade replied as she started putting some little pink socks on Sam’s feet, “I ask you to get a job and you don’t… You couldn’t even be bothered to go to the bathroom when you needed it.”

“I didn’t know I needed to!” Sam exclaimed in response, “It’s never happened before!”

Sam covered her face in shame as she was dressed like a useless baby. Some shorts were pulled up over her panties and a t-shirt came over her head. Once that was done she was scooped up yet again and held no Jade’s hip as they started going downstairs.

“What are you doing?” Sam asked desperately.

“You’ll see.” Jade replied mysteriously.

That wasn’t a helpful answer for Sam who was now completely dependent on Jade. She couldn’t just walk out, she would be homeless, her mother wouldn’t let her back in she knew that already. She could only watch whilst sitting on the stairs as Jade put on her shoes. Sam reached for own trainers thinking she could at least do that herself but when Jade saw what she was doing she quickly snatched the trainers away.

Sam had to point her toes as the shoes were slipped on to her feet. Jade wouldn’t even let her tie the laces herself. Once she was fully dressed she was picked up again. It was strange, she hated when people picked her up and always resisted it but now it seemed like the only way she was taken places. She wanted to say something but knew it wouldn’t do any good and was still very worried about potential punishment.

With her shoes on Sam was lifted once again and sat on Jade’s hip. Her eyes grew wide in horror as Jade opened the front door She tried to shake Jade’s hand free so she could get down but got nowhere. As she was carried out into the sunlight she froze up, immediately she felt like there was a spotlight on her.

“Jade!” Sam hissed as she looked around desperately, “Put me down! People might see!”

“All they’ll see is the same thing I see.” Jade commented as they approached the car, “A baby being taken out somewhere.”

Sam hated all of this. Being called a baby was a sore spot because of her height, being carried was equally intolerable. When she looked back towards the house she saw a curtain twitch and assumed the staff were watching her. She let out a little whine.

“Where are we going?” Sam whined.

“We need to get you some things.” Jade replied vaguely.

Jade’s car was waiting at the bottom of the steps. Sam was put into the backseat and wasn’t even allowed to do her own seatbelt as her cousin pulled it across her body and clipped it into place. Sam then watched with a pout as Jade went to the driver’s seat.

The drive was done in silence. Sam was constantly worrying about where they were going and why. She had only woken up a short time ago but so much had happened and changed, it was like a whirlwind had taken over her life and she couldn’t stop it. It was early morning and the streets were mostly quiet as they headed around the edge of the town towards the large shopping mall. There were no shortage of parking spaces as the stores had only just opened. To Sam’s shock and embarrassment Jade pulled up to a “family” parking spot, one for parents with young children.

“What are we doing here?” Sam asked as soon as the engine switched off.

“We are getting some more appropriate things for you.” Jade replied.

Sam didn’t know what that could possibly mean. She had just pressed the button to release her seatbelt when the door next to her opened and Jade’s arms reached in. Sam tried to scramble away automatically but she was grasped round the waist and easily pulled back towards the door. She cringed and went limp in defeat as Jade lifted her up just like she had done at home.

There was nothing Sam despised more than being carried around like this and to have it done in public felt like the worst humiliation possible. After locking the doors Jade started taking her towards the front of the large mall. Sam saw other people walking to and from the shopping centre, many looked her way but none seem to register that she wasn’t a child. She did the only thing she could do and hid her face against Jade.

“It’s OK.” Jade said comfortingly which just made Sam feel worse, “It’s an adjustment but I think you’ll be much happier in the long run.”

The long run? Sam whined at the words. Whatever Jade was doing it was clearly not meant to be a short term thing. The whole situation felt so out of control for Sam, she just wanted to go back home and have a second chance to find a job. If she had known her cousin really meant what she had said he would’ve tried harder!

As they passed through the sliding glass doors at the front of the mall Sam felt the warmth of the early morning cool under the buildings air conditioners. The sounds went from cars slowly looking for premium spots to light music played through speakers and echoed voices. Sam Realised she was pressing herself tightly against Jade in an attempt not to be seen, it was utterly futile of course.

“Ah, perfect.” Jade said.

Sam didn’t know what Jade was referring to as she was keeping her face buried against her cousin in shame. She yelped as she was suddenly pulled away and held out in front of Jade. She had just enough time to look down and see the handle of a shopping cart before her legs were fed through the holes and she was sat on the seat. With wide eyes she saw she had been put in the cart’s child seat.

“Get me out of here!” Sam hissed as her face blossomed with heat.

“I’m sure riding in there will be easier than walking everywhere.” Jade said.

Sam wanted to argue. She wanted to scream and shout. As she looked around she saw other people, lots of other people, and they all seemed deceived by her size into thinking she was actually a small child. She was already humiliated but if she let it be known she was actually an adult she felt it would be even worse. The sort of thing she’d have to bring up to a therapist.

With a jolt the cart started to move. Holding on to the handle Sam couldn’t see behind her, all she saw was Jade’s torso directly in front of her. She twisted around to try and see where they were going but it seemed they were going deep into the mall. Though Sam had no idea where she was going it quickly became clear that Jade had a plan as she pushed the cart with purpose.

Sam felt like everything was completely out of control. After waking up so suddenly and in such an embarrassing way everything had happened at lightning pace, at no point had she been able to think.

“I think this will be our first stop.” Jade said as she turned the cart sideways.

Sam looked over her shoulder to a clothing shop. She was more confused than ever, if they were just going to buy clothes why couldn’t they have done it online like she normally did? Or she could’ve walked!

“I have clothes already…” Sam hissed quietly when she was sure there was no one to hear her.

“You need more appropriate outfits.” Jade said as she wheeled the car towards an escalator that locked the wheels in place.

“More appropriate?” Sam replied, “Jade, can we just stop and think about all this?”

“I’ve done a lot of thinking.” Jade replied, “This is best for both of us. Trust me.”

“Trust you!?” Sam’s voice rose dangerously high, “After all… you’ve…”

The wind was taken out of Sam’s argument as she saw an image appear on the wall next to her. As the escalator continued upwards the image slid past and the little woman’s blood seemed to freeze. It was a picture of two toddlers, a boy and a girl, playing on a beach with a bucket and spade. Underneath, written in a crayon-like font, were the words “Children’s Section.”

Sam was frozen. She couldn’t process what she was seeing. Her mind was taken back to her childhood. She remembered her mother taking her to children’s sections to buy her clothes long after it was acceptable for her to wear the childish outfits. She remembered the other kids at school laughing or picking on her for her fashion sense. No amount of begging had got her mom to stop the practice. It was only when she went to college that she found places, mostly online, that catered to her special requirements and could get some clothes that didn’t look like they belonged on a toddler.

“N-No…” Sam gasped, “Y-You can’t!”

Jade pretended not to hear Sam. At least Sam presumed she was pretending, because as they reached the top floor Jade merrily pushed the cart off the walkway and started heading across the floor.

It seemed the further they went the worse everything got. The first clothes they passed seemed to be “cool” stuff for older teens and if they had stopped there Sam wouldn’t have been too upset. But then they continued past younger teen stuff which was a bit more colourful and full of stuff containing the latest social media trends, things that any adult would cringe wearing. Sam could barely look as Jade continued with no sign of slowing down.

The cart was pushed past racks of pre-teen clothes. Now things were getting much more colourful and everything was covered in the latest superhero brands or children’s cartoon characters. Still they kept rolling. The toddler section was similar to the pre-teen one but now the characters on the clothing were from what Sam would describe as baby shows.

By the time Jade stopped they were at the very back of the store and Sam felt like she was about to throw up. She was surrounded on all sides by proper baby clothes. Not even her mother had shopped from sections like this. An instinctual want to run away overtook Sam and she tried to lift herself out of the seat, with her legs hanging beneath her it was harder than she thought it would be and after struggling for a few seconds she realised it would be impossible without being lifted.

“Jade… You can’t make me wear this stuff…” Sam wanted to sound authoritative and assert control over her own body but instead her words sounded whiny even to her own ears.

“Why not?” Jade replied as she stopped the cart, “What else would I dress a baby in?”

“I’m not a…” Sam was shouting and she quickly lowered her voice as she looked around. They weren’t alone up here. She continued in an urgent whisper, “I’m not a baby. You know that!”

“What I know…” Jade said as she started examining a pink onesie adorned with little fairies waving magic wands, “Is that I have a little girl living with me who wants no responsibilities and wets the bed.”

“That was a one off!” Sam argued. She was looking at the onesie Jade was smiling at. She couldn’t imagine herself ever wearing anything so humiliating.

Jade unhooked the onesie and carried it to the cart. Despite Sam’s desperate pleading she dropped it in. She then returned to the shelves for more. Sam slumped forwards. She couldn’t believe this was happening it was like her worst nightmare had come to life and she was completely powerless to stop it.
