ARVInn--Security Office, Staff

Chapter Description: With a population of AR-Adults, security was a first concern for the founders. Over time, it developed into an effective part of the campus.

Security Office, Staff

Background:

One of the first things that had to be arranged for the ARVInn was security.  Having a population which was vulnerable, even in a relatively remote rural area, meant that someone had to offer protection.  At first, the Foundation provided funding for deputies from the local sheriff’s department to be on campus patrol.  This proved to be awkward in the long run, as issues of command and control soon surfaced.  It was decided that the campus security needed to be controlled by the administration of the facility.

Entry stations were quickly found to be necessary, as local curiosity led to some persons being intrusive and alarming the new residents.  Limiting access to the campus soon diminished the issue.  Fortunately, this was a short-term problem, as familiarity eventually took care of the situation.  Today, a very cordial relationship exists between residents and the local population.
