Chapter Five

“You called the cops?” Jennifer’s livid voice echoed loudly within her parents small home. “Who the fuck do you think you are?”

Her father took a step towards her, hands grasping. “Jenny, please, it’s for your own good. You’re out of control!” He twisted and pointed at the shiny blue Camero parked in their driveway. “The sheriff ran the plates, that’s a stolen car!”

“It’s not even mine!” she shot back, glaring at them. Such pathetic wastes...running the licence plates... “I was just borrowing it from a friend. Who do think you are? Now the police are going to think that I stole it!”

“Then your friend stole it,” her mother said, the small woman almost quivering with anger and fear. “And even then, what are you doing driving it? You already have a car!”

Jennifer snorted, a painful mistake as the motion rattled some of her new nose piercings. “That little broke down piece of shit? I sold that thing like a month ago!”

Her father looked horrified. “Jennifer! We paid good money for that! What did you use the money for?”

“I don’t see how that is any of your...” the teenager was interrupted as she noticed the familiar black and white vehicles driving up to block the Camero in the driveway. She felt panic rise in her chest as she realized that she was still holding. She turned to run out the back door, but her father jumped forward and got her skinny arm in a deathgrip, refusing to allow her out.

“Let me go, Dad, I swear, or so help me...!” she growled, doing all she could just to pull him into the kitchen. Freedom was so close, but her dad still wouldn’t let go. It was then she noticed the object on the counter, left over from her mother’s attempt at making a nice dinner for the three of them. She snatched up the knife. “I swear to God, dad, if you don’t let go...”

Shifting Jennifer to his good arm to turn the door handle, Jedin Solonis squinted his eyes as he stepped into the brightly colored lab. Quickly making a note of anything out of place from the last experiment, he sighed to himself with a little smile on his face, and made his way over to the detention facility to deposit his ?catch’.

Landing in the crib with a little ?thump’, the little skunk tried to quickly leap to her feet, but she found her knees were still a bit shaky, and her balance off. At best, and with the crib rails’ help, she slowly made it to a standing position. The bars of her cage towered above her, and there was no way she would be able to climb out. The lapine doctor nodded once, smiled again, and walked stiffly to the other side of the room to collapse heavily upon a well-padded rocking chair. Remaining mute, he simply folded his hands in front of his face and stared at her with dark, thoughtful brown eyes.

Jennifer ignored him at first, sweeping her gaze around the room to get a better look at her surroundings. She was somewhat disheartened, (but not wholly surprised) to find herself trapped in what appeared to be a young nursery. Blue and pink pastel colors marred the walls and ceiling, and colorful, anthropomorphic animated characters danced and played upon the sheets of the crib bed. Next to Dr. Solonis, a long white dresser stood stoic, with several drawers and a flat, padded cover over the top, it’s functions obvious to any former babysitter. A small kitchenette was built into one of the side walls, a microwave, mini-refrigerator, and a fruit basket were all located within this space.

After a quick look around, the captive finally got fed up with the rabbit’s nearly unblinking stare. Glaring right back at him, (she felt no fear of him yet...after all, he was nothing more then an oversized bunny) she shot angrily, “What are you looking at?”

“Hope,” Dr. Solonis said in a soft, cultured voice. There was a brittle strength in that simple word that could have come from a weary soldier or a proud old man. “Hope for my people.”

She drew herself up, and turned away from him with a petulant gesture. “Whatever. You freaks have another thing coming if you think I’ll cooperate with you. Whatever you’ve got planned, it’s not going to work.”

“Ok,” Solonis said softly. “I totally understand why you’d feel that way. I’m sorry our methods must be so uncouth.”

Something about his gentle reply deflated some of the child’s anger, but only a little bit of it. She looked around again. “Where the hell are we?”

“Well, Ms. Dancette, as I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, we are in one of several nursery facilities within Tiera Raev, an academy here in Prelude. It is here that we will conduct our experiment, and allow you to complete your rebirth.”

Jen ignored that last remark. “I didn’t expect you people to have nurseries like this. It looks like-“

“A human nursery, yes.” Solonis raised an eyebrow. “You’re correct, though. The nurseries we use for our true children are actually quite different this. Good assumption. They are darker, smaller, more enclosed, to simulate an underground burrow or similar safe habitat that our ancestors may have used. This...” he said, gesturing as he stood, “was built in the images of your childhood, of any humans, and hopefully, will serve to ease your transistion”

Jennifer whirled on him, growling. “It won’t work. You can’t fuck with my brain...I know what you want to do to me, and I’ll fight it, I swear I will.”

Solonis sighed, but smiled gently, brushing one of his long ears as it drooped down onto his face. “Though this goes against everything I stand for as a Theran and a scientist, I will say this. The knowledge alone will not save you.” He looked grim for a moment. “Make no mistake, I will see this process to completion, but that doesn’t mean I have to be rough about it.”

“What do you mean?”

“I will answer, but first, there is something I must attend to. I apologize for putting you in this situation, but I do believe you are in need of a clean pair of undergarments. My eyes,” he said, pointing, “and my nose, tell me such things are in order.”

Eyes widening in shock, Jennifer’s hands flew to her inner thighs in surprise. Her little black paws met squishy plastic, and she groaned in revulsion as she realized she was wearing what felt like a very full diaper. A very quick peep under her red dress confirmed as much.

Disgusted, she reacted instantly, feeling around her hips for the tapes that held the sickening thing on her. Deep down, there was some measure of embarrassment as she realized she had probably been wearing it wet for some time now. Her questing hands were to be thwarted, though, because as she pulled her dress up to see, the garment did not have tapes, as a human diaper would have. Sure, it had pastel animals and childish things printed upon them, but nothing to hold it up. Maybe it was a pull-up, she thought, and steadying herself on her wobbling legs, she tried to get her fingers into the waist band to tear it down.

As she did, though, the diaper seemed to gain a mind of it’s own as the waist band began to tighten and almost painfully dig into her waist. The pressure on her lower stomach was very uncomfortable, and it started up a noisy rumbling from said organ. Letting go of the band caused the tightening to stop and withdraw instantly. She gave an incredulous look up at the rabbit-doctor.

He looked sheepish as he grinned down at her. “Again, my apologies, but you have to let me help you with that. Those toddler undergarments come with guards to keep the young from tampering with them, or taking them off.” He chuckled to himself. “Because we all know that nothing ruins a good tea service like a naked child running amuck unprepared for.”

Jennifer dropped her dress down, realizing that she was almost transfixed, staring at the offending thing. “There is no way in hell I’m going to let you touch me, buddy,” she said in her high voice, an echo of her former self.

“I cannot leave you in such a state. Though you may not know it, but the urine you’ve got stored down there can lead to a host of uncomfortabilites.” Solonis paused. “Uncomfortabilities. I wonder if that is a word.” He shook himself, and began reaching into the crib.

Jennifer surged away from him, tripping over her bare legs, but as she fell, she scooted away from him as much as the small cage would allow.

“Please don’t be so unreasonable so early on,” the doctor pleaded. “Be difficult about other things, but this is-“

“I’ll deal with it!” Jennifer yelled. “You’re not going to touch me! You-you....please, don’t. Please...leave me alone.``

“Jennifer Dancette. If you don’t hold still so that I can change you, I can and will use my Steader to subdue you,” Dr. Solonis said in a suddenly strict and forceful tone of voice. “I am not a man who enjoys violence, but I will do what is necessary to facilitate your cooperation. I will warn you now, I am not the only caretaker you will have to suffer during the duration of your stay here, and the others will not give you so many chances to be difficult. Now I ask you a final time. Will you lay still and allow me to change you?”

Jennifer gave the doctor a scathing, tearful look, setting her lip in a fixed pout. Sighing, the doctor shook his head and began to reach into his pocket for the slim metal device. “So be it,” he said as he pulled it out.

“WAIT! Wait wait wait!” Jennifer cried, throwing her hands up. “Go ahead and do it, you nasty old perv!”

Dr. Solonis relaxed and let the Steader slide back into his pocket. Thank goodness. “I appreciate-“ he began, but then he caught the look the tiny skunk still held in her eyes. Best just get to it then, he thought.

Hurriedly collecting a clean diaper from the counter, Dr. Solonis tensed up again as he pulled the bars down on the crib. Jennifer, however didn’t move, even though her eyes quickly scanned the room for possible escape routes. Getting a hold of the girl’s feet, Jedin pulled her forward until her back thumped down on the soft bedding inside the crib. She made a noise of annoyance, but the doctor hid his smile. Lifting up her dress, he lightly slapped her paws away as she made a move to cover herself. “Ah ah ah, little one. You promised...”

“I didn’t promise you nothing, you bastard.” She sniffed, looking away.

Rolling his eyes as he revealed her soaked skivvies, Dr. Solonis gently rubbed the top of the diaper, near the waist band, with his thumbs. The micro sensors in the diaper would register that an adult caretaker was attempting a clean up, and slowly but surely, creases appeared in the diaper where you’d normally expect them, and with a soft rustling sound, the front lifted away, as though he had ripped the tapes from a normal human diaper. Jenny took no notice of this, however, as she now seemed fixated on the ceiling mobile that had begun to creak and spin as it sensed the presence of a child beneath it. Pulling the diaper out from under the child, Dr. Solonis debated for a moment, then finally shrugged and began dabbing at Jenny’s private areas with a wet napkin he procured from his coat pocket. This caused a hiss of surprise from the girl, who thankfully didn’t take this new intrusion as an excuse to begin the fight anew. In all truth, Theran diapers and the way they were built made this kind of clean up overkill, but he wanted to gauge her reaction to his touch. It was something she’d have to get used to eventually, and this was at least, a positive sign.

Grasping her legs, Jedin pushed the unfolded clean diaper beneath her bum, watching in satisfaction as the back of it opened automatically and wrapped around her bush of a tail. In the old days, Therans had to thread their children’s tails through the backs of these things, and that was a pain in a half. Ah, the joys of modern technology. Pulling the front up, the doctor smiled as he looked at the design on the front...a small woodland scene, painted in pastels, with a parent and child shilloutted at the edge of a lake, fishing. It reminded him of his own childhood; of fishing with his brothers. As he pulled the sides up, the edges melted back into the front, creating a perfect child-proof seal.

Pleased with his work, Jedin backed up and allowed Jenny to attempt to sit up. Struggling a bit as she did so, she finally made it to a sitting position and stared venomously at the offending garment. Poking at it, she leveled that glare up at him. “If you’re expecting a thank you, you can sit on it and spin, old man,” she growled, presenting him with her middle finger. It was a gesture that even the kindly doctor was familiar from his studies, and he frowned, shaking his head. “You can’t take this away from me, you asshole,” Jenny said, feeling strangely confident despite the forced diaper change that had just occurred. Something about this man dispelled the numbing fear that she had felt in Dr. Cade’s presence, and she knew if she played tough, she’d make it out of this.

Backing up further, Dr. Solonis merely chuckled somewhat flatly and said, “Oh yes, we can, dear child. Just give me time.” And with that, he spun on his heel and left the room, mentally reviewing the observations he’d need to record. Things were going smoothly, he thought to himself, even as Jennifer’s indignant cries at being left alone followed him out the door.
