Chapter 3
part 1

Chapter 1

Kairi looked at the star-shaped fruit in her hands as the ocean’s waves crashed into the helpless sand and dragging the unlucky grains into the ocean the rest melting with the other grains of sands. They grains of sands had no choice in the matter; they were just close enough to be pulled into the grasp of the cold ocean’s icy grip.

The fruit’s skin was yellow and had an odd touch. In a way it felt like you could reach out and pluck it from the sky. When you held it to yourself, it had a warm feeling like you were holding a real star and you wonder what would happen, if you tried wishing on it?

Maybe it was everything about the fruit that help the rumors spread about its magical powers, not to grant wishes, but the one-thing humans could never accomplish in their lifetime. If you shared a paopu fruit with a person, then their destinies become intertwined and they would remain a part of each other’s lives no matter what. Or that was what she overheard Riku say to Sora. They thought she was far away when he pulled the fruit out to show Sora and then teased him about it. It was on the small island with palm trees that you could find Riku on one of the bent tree roots, deep in thought. They were so busy, that they didn’t see her stay behind hiding behind one of the trees listen to their conversation.

Sora seemed confused, then curious, and finally bashful. He didn’t know how to react to Riku’s words. Maybe his first thoughts were "Maybe it’s true, but...” Then it changed to, "Of course not, the whole idea just seems kind of dumb." Sora’s face gave away his curiosity however.

Riku gave him the fruit and left leaving Sora what to react. Was it true? And if it was what would he do with it? Time passed as Sora’s attention was on the fruit, and then finally he decided his actions and took a bite of it and tossed it away. Then he ran past the tree and to the main section of the beach to catch up with her and Riku.

Kairi step out from her hiding place. She walked over and picked up the paopu fruit that now had a bite mark in it. She wondered if it was true about what Riku said about being able to

intertwine fate. Destinies intertwine if they are supposed to, and no one knows when it’s going to happen. It is out of anyone’s control but fate itself.

But what if you could change it and be in someone’s life forever? You wouldn’t have to worry about having them slip away because they would be there forever, somehow connected with you. But should you do it? Change fate for you and someone else because you desired it and they would have no control over the matter?

Kairi released she was thinking about it too much. All it was a rumor. It probably was just an odd fruit, were their any other fruits shaped like a star out there? Today the three were busy gathering supplies for their raft. They were going to take a journey to see if there were other worlds. Did they have something similar this strange star-shaped fruit?? That was one question on the journey Kairi couldn’t wait to find out.

Well even if it wasn’t true, at least she could try it and see what it tasted like. She had never even tried a paopu fruit. She brought the fruit up to her mouth. She hesitated, and then

bit into the fruit. The first thing that happened was she noticed how strong it was. It felt like something had stung her in the mouth. She found her letting the fruit drop as a strange dizziness consumed her, and then it disappeared.

It had only been a few minutes, yet it was strong enough that Kairi found herself losing her balance. She had grabbed the bent tree to try to stop her from falling, but it was too thick to grab on to and she found herself hitting the ground. Fortunately it was soft enough and felt more like she was floating onto the ground then actually falling. The dizziness had passed when she released where she was.

Kairi waited few a few minutes then tried to stand up without a problem. She didn’t know the fruit would be -that- strong. But it looked like the after-effect was short, like a strong drink. Her mind wandered back to Sora, who bit into it with no effort. He face did not showthat the same had happened. But maybe Sora had eaten paopu fruits before and gotten used to fruit’s effects. But she doubted it. Maybe it was different for the person who tried it, even if it was the same fruit. She shook her head. She was thinking about it too much, just like before. She began walking, slowly at first in case the fruit had any more surprises for her. But she could walk normally, and so she headed home..

The rest of the night was pretty much normal. She ate dinner with her mother and talked about their day, and then she went into her room and wrote up a list of stuff that needed to be done for their upcoming journey on the raft. After rechecking and revising it for the sixth time, she crawled into bed and fell asleep.
