Chapter 13

(Silverstone Household, August 4th, 1996, 7:30 a.m.)

“Honey, I know it’s a new place with new faces but it’s preschool!  It’s going to be so much fun!  Besides, it won’t be all new faces.  Meghan’s in your class!  You loved going to preschool the first time around.  What’s different this time, sweetie?  Tell Mommy….”

Rachel stopped, catching herself as she realized she knew the answer to her own question.  Things were much different.  Unlike before, she was with Amanda every day, present for every moment of her re-maturation.  Instead of handing her daughter off to a nanny by 8:00 a.m., she woke her daughter up each morning, made her breakfast and watched over her as she played and watched cartoons.  This time, Amanda never saw the inside of a daycare.  Her mother was the only one who changed her diapers, fed her and bathed her.  She guided Amanda through potty training and reconditioned the fundamental knowledge that had laid dormant in her partially-regressed mind.  At four years old, Amanda was finally ready to go back out into the world again.  This time, it would be without the woman whom she had grown so attached to and loved so much.

Amanda looked down shyly, then back up at her mother again.  “I’ll just miss you, Mommy…..I want to be with you all the time…..” she complained sweetly, her hands clasped in front of her.  Rachel’s heart melted and her lip trembled as she took her daughter in her arms and held her tightly.

“I’ll always be with you, baby.  I’ll always be with you.”
